QUOTE: QUOTE: "I like to walk my dog and have long talks." So what does he tell you?
He says "Hey, what's this smell like! What's this smell like! What about this! And this! Need to relieve myself... ahhh. What's that smell like?" Not sure what there is to glean from that. |

QUOTE: We are talking some serious $hit here. What about a pendulum? If Coriolis effects would not disturb several pounds of water, what makes a few ounces of metal on a string change direction? http://geosci.uchicago.edu/~nnn/LAB/DEMOS/coriolis.html Push the play button on the discs and pretend you are looking in a toilet or, if you are cool, pretend you are looking at a black hole with stripes. I was under the impression that it was the earth moving below the pendulum. Interesting.

"Many toilets are designed to have the water enter the toilet bowl through a series of small holes under the porcelain seat rim. These holes are angled slightly, causing the water in the bowl to swirl around. This swirling action, combined with the speed of the entering water, causes the contents of the bowl to quickly and thoroughly exit from the base of the bowl, into the waste pipes, and, hopefully, out of your life forever. QUOTE: QUOTE: Pretty sure I read fine... he wrote that he was off to flush his toilet.
Apparently you did not read HOW I conducted my experiments. No jets involved. Also works on sinks....you get the picture. Jeannie, I like you... I really do. But I wasn't even referring to you on my post. I was referring to his comment that he was off to flush his toilet and stating that most toilets are designed to spin. I don't know which way... I'll be sure to check mine when I get home. But most toilets angle their jets to more effectively clean. So whether these toilets spin clockwise or counterclockwise wouldn't be relevant. I wasn't speaking to the sink or a standing pool of water. Check your toilet. It likely spins because it was designed to spin.

Well I am off to go flush my toilette
Well toilets are generally designed to spin in a specific direction. The jets are pointed to make the water spin to more effectively clean and dispose of..... you get the picture. No you don't read well. It is not just toilets. And it is NOT the design. I poured water in the bowel and it still went counter clockwise. Did not use any "jets." Also did experiments on two sinks and two different toilets, no jets involved. Pretty sure I read fine... he wrote that he was off to flush his toilet. |

Well, I don't have much in the way to test with at the moment. But here's another article addressing it.
http://www.ems.psu.edu/~fraser/Bad/BadCoriolis.html Everything I have read indicates that the state of the water and the shape of the sink would have far more influence than the coriolis effect, which makes perfect sense to me. However I have yet to hear from anyone that has seen their sink drain clockwise in the northern hemisphere. |

QUOTE: QUOTE: The coriolis effect isn't significant enough to affect water going down the drain. Other factors have significantly more influence. The water in a drain can spiral just as easily to the left as to the right. The pressures and resistances are not truly uniform and therefore a whirlpool is created during the draining process, in the direction of least resistance. Hurricances, however, always rotate in the same direction... or rather all above the equator rotate in one direction and all below the equator rotate the other. The side closest to the equator will be rotating toward the east, the direction of the earth's rotation. They are large enough to be more heavily influenced by the coriolis effect. You are correct on the hurricane but wrong on the toilet. When I was in Ecuador I went to the equator toilet exhibit (somewhat less fancy than the Smithsonian). They had three toilets set up, one on the equator and one on each side. The two on each side flushed normally but in opposite directions. The one in the middle, located exactly on the equator, acted like it had a turd stuck in it but was made of glass to prove that it didn't. Objects that fall on a spinning planets surface have a rotational acceleration emparted regardless of size. Not what I was taught in physics. http://curious.astro.cornell.edu/question.php?number=516 Obviously this isn't necessarily a definitive source, but at least it's from Cornell, lol. |

QUOTE: so what kind of cable do i need to connect the computer to the xbox 360.i think its called a cat5 cable, but im not sure.im guessing ill need about 50 or so feet and i think i can get it at wal mart.is this correct or no? Well, my kids bought a wireless connection for the xbox, which simplified the process... it connects wirelessly to the wireless router. Not sure of the cost though. I'm sure a cat5 cable is cheaper, but I'm all about the wireless. |
