Mace is illegal i belive in 50 states,

i think you can get some pepper spray at your local flea market,

and it's alot cheaper to get a pistol permit,

you can order it on amazon.com but you might have to wait for it to be shipped, you can buy anything through them.

what you want is pepper spray. it's legal almost everywhere (but check your local laws just in case) and will stop a jerkwad in his tracks.

you could invest in a stun-gun, too. compared to the pepper spray, they're a bit more expensive, but the results are well worth the expenditure.

pepper spray can be bought at your local big-box store (Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc.) or at your local sporting goods store (Big-5, Sports Chalet, etc.) or -if you you have one in your area- your big-box electronics store, like Fry's Electronics.

im going to have to look there tomorrow before class...

i dont know im just afraid to go without it as silly as it might seem. but walking a block to your car in the dark just doesnt sound appealing to me.

buy a stun gun......just remember drugs and alcohol can affect their use....( the stomache is a sensitive are...it makes them vomit uncontrollably)
chemical sprays are good but an imunity can be built up to them.......
go take some self defense classes.....akido, hapikido, krav maga...all good!!

depending on whether they're legal in your area, a telescoping baton will also work wonders. they're kinda like pull-out antennas you used to see on things like boom-boxes, except they're a lot thicker and they're meant to bash peoples' faces in. just flicking one out to full size is enough to make most criminals run like scared little children.

it was a case of mistaken identity.....but a bouncer came at me with a baseball bat when I walked in the door......I own a new bat!!!!!! my advice is dont pull any type of weapon unless you know how to use it....

I used to get out of class at 10:45 pm every night... usually my latest classes were profiling techniques and Serial offenders. Real pleasant topics to study before walking to your car. Pepper Spray is easy to buy, just don't make the common (and cops do it all the time) mistake of spraying it and then running into the spray. You end up choking yourself! Plus, depending on your campus, maybe you can team up with others in your class to go to your car, too. We would all walk to one car and then the driver would take us to our individual cars.

Good luck and stay safe!

I would be wary of anything that can easily be taken from you like a baton. If it's taken from you you're in trouble. The spray can be sprayed in their eyes and that gives you a chance to run. Nothing is fool proof and a guy on serious drugs may not feel it. I carry pepper spray and I have been peppered sprayed. It works well.

If you buy a stun gun, shoot it a few times at some pillows, or some soft-wood trees. You need to know exactly what it feels like(your end, not the target's), so that if(God forbid) you get attacked, you'll be able to control it after you pull the trigger. You'll also know just how long the wires are, so that you'll know to be close enough to use it effectively.

When I was a Deputy, we had to BE shot to be able to shoot someone else. It HURTS.

what about campus security? At most campuses they offer to escort you back to your dorm or car..
