Making friends in a new community is not nearly as hard as it might sound but going to a bar is probably the worst place you could pick to do it. Look around your community for groups to join. There are a lot of choices;teams, schools, churches, faternal organizations, charities. They don't have to be lifetime commitments but it is a good bet you could make some life time friends. People in charities are not all angels but usually they are trying to do something positive with their spare time besides getting drunk and making fun of other people. Why you would care what people in a bar think of you is worrying about the wrong people. You want to have a few more social skills like danceing or skill at a sport take a class. Everyone there will be in the same boat and it will be fun discovering how it is done. Besides lots of single people are on campus. The average age is 38.
