I just got an email from an older lady on my myspace asking me out to a party next week and I need advise on how to politely say no, not interested. She's got twenty years on me. This is not the first time she's asked me out somewhere either. I usually pull the can't find a babysitter excuse but it doesn't seem to be working.

A year ago, I did go with her to this same party as friends. She needed a ride. We hung out, got drunk, and danced some. We both had a good time and that was that. Problem is, she's asked me to dinner, a sushi bar, a beauty pageant, and a few other places since then & now wants me to go to this party again with her. I've run out of excuses.

I need to let her down nicely, since I do work for her business sometimes. Her daughter's around my age & a babe, but unfortunately she's engaged. Nothing against older, but you have to draw the line somewhere.

Any advise?!?!?!?!?

How about the truth? That you prefer to date in your own age range ...

...and failing that, you could always use the 'visitors coming from the mainland' excuse ... laugh

That wouldn't fly over here since everyone knows everyone. I could make up a story like that, but every time I see her I'd have to lie again. I've turned her down already quite a few times, you'd think she'd get it by now!

I've hinted at that before, didn't seem to work. I think I need to be more clear this time; just not sure how to say it without hurting her feelings. I'm not good at this stuff LOL

Ummm..HINT!!! "Hinting" just sucks...it skirts around the issue.

Just be HONEST, with a smidgen of compassion, ok? How about this?...

"You are a lovely lady, with many intriguing qualities...HOWEVER....

blah, blah, blah....you make me wanna puke...blah, blah, blah...you make me want to slash my wrists...blah, blah, blah....care for a bleach cocktail...blah, blah, blah..."

Just kidding.... .... kinda! ohwell

Find your own truths...and use your own words...and spill it. If you do it effectively, combined with any sense of compassion...trust me! She WILL get the message. flowerforyou

First, she may really just be asking for the company. She knows you two had a good time previously and might just think you'd be fun to hang with once in a while.

Whatever the case, you gotta tell her the truth. You can say "Hey, I really think you're a nice lady, and I don't mind going to the party as a friend, but I'm just not interested in dating you." And, you can always leave out the part about going to the party with her... I was just thinking it would show her that you don't dislike her.

Or, send her a couple of those scary emails.. the ones that you have to stare at and then the scary face jumps out at you. It'll give her a coronary and you can be done with her.

Thanks; that's good advise & probably how I'll go about handling this.
