A few Republican Governors, not many but some, are planning on rejecting the stimulus money destined for their States.Money meant for things like extended unemployment benefits.

Brian Schweitzer, Gov of Montana and Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley dismissed GOP detractors as "fringe" Republicans eager to score political points.

How do you feel about it?
Is your state one of the few with a stubborn Governor planning on rejecting the help?

No our Gov is going to take the "stimulas" but he is also going to raise taxes on everything in the state. So at a time when people need more he is going to take more, WTF. So any little pocket change we will have from President Obama will be taken from our state and then some.noway

More of them SHOULD reject the help! This situation calls for financial prudent actions, not tossing money at everything!

It will be interesting to see if these "fringe" republicans manage to do for their states without Obama's help where others fail. If they do then that will be saying a lot for Obama's plan and it won't be good!

Just wondering.
Where do you get that the stimulus will require your Gov to raise taxes?

The only legitimate ones Ive seen who will be required to do so is employers who must match the extended unemployment benefits!

Do you have a reason for saying this or is it just something you've heard?

Two more are Governors of States who rely on the Fed Gov to bail them out all the time, rather than raise taxes in their states.
Unable to take care of emergencies that arise unexpectedly, that other states handle alone, they rely on Fed tax money to save their arse.

Mississippi, and Louisiana.

Just another reason for business to leave each state and America.

Just keep tossing financial pressure at the people making money, especially the ones who EMPLOY people!

Our Gov in WI is raising taxes on a lot of things here. and its really going to hurt our businesses here. Things like gas, cigs, internet downloads, property, sales tax, and several others. to try and balance our budget from last year.

he prob was going to raise them anyway. but with that it just makes the stimulas a mute point to even have it. What is the sense of the feds giving us something if our state is just going to take it and more?

I see the point to your reasoning, but if he was going to raise your taxes anyway, wont this help to ease that burden?
Its meant for infrastructure and help for the unemployed by extending State unemployment benefits.
Would you want your Gov to reject them and put all the burden on the people of Wisc by taxing them even more? Or possibly ignoring the infrastructure needs completely?

If the stimulas is going for infrastructure then where are my tax dollars going? isnt that what we pay taxes for?

The stimulus, while not eliminating the need for taxes, will help to ease the amount of taxes each resident will need to pay.

Then why are they going to be raised? as I post earlier

I presume, if he doesnt take the stimulus, he will raise them more....

Ask him...

You did read the part where part of the stimulus requires matching funds, right? Like a lot of the medical provisions? If my state is massively in debt and needs help, I'm not going to take funds that require me to add funds to it either.
