Bangalore, 3 times. Although it goes without saying, it's a poor poor country. I found it to be very stinky (not trying to be funny). It's a super long flight and horribly uncomfortable if not in business class. Take sleeping pills for flight and lots of snacks. Eating will be hard there if you do not like Indian food. I LOVE Indian food but was still scared to eat out much. If you stay at a 5 star hotel then eat all the food you can while at the hotel - the breakfast buffet will likely be quite a spread and have lots of things you can eat. Drink ONLY bottled water - period. Go to the doctor before you go and he / she should give you lots of meds to take. If you have an easily upset tummy take some meds with you for that. If you're going for long, take food with you - snack bars, cookies, fruit cups (the metal ones), tuna fish. I found the people to be really really nice and very accomodating. I could go on for days  Let me know if you have specific questions and I can probably answer for ya. I hope some of this rambling was helpful flowerforyou

India has more religions than any other country. They are extremely diverse and accepting of cultures in terms of religion....

But keep in mind they are a patriarchal society entrenched in the caste system. You are better off being seen in modest clothing and not heard. Wear pants and long sleeves, as you cannot disguise the fact you are American. I've heard India is very poor and that there are not sewers everywhere. Watch where you step. Do not talk to strangers, and keep your money strapped to your skin, under your clothing.

In sum, think of it as like going to New York in a way....laugh

I wonder what Indian beer tastes like?

I had a fried bananas in yogurt dippy sauce thing once at a restaurant in NYC, actually. It was sublime.... fattening I'm sure though.

Do you like Indian food?

I do like some Indian food. I don't like really spicy stuff, though.

I don't know if I could go for two weeks.

I loathe curry, and I'm not real find of spicy food either.

Well, maybe I'd lose weight. laugh Or gain it, if all I ate were those fried bananas....

I wonder if you can get just plain stuff made at the hotel? Like stir fry?

Sweets.... I'd tell you to cover up if you went to any warm weather country alone. Exposed skin, in many countries, is an excuse to assault or molest a woman. And Americans are commonly known to wear skimpy clothing and being loose. Not you, but you know the rep. Americans are also not savvy travelers as we usually don't... so hence the money under the clothing.

Hope you know that's why I suggested that....but I think you do.

Once I find out for sure if I'm going, I'll bug my boss about things like that. He went, but hasn't been available for me to talk to recently!
