It's more common for women to do a lot of things these days... like work, and think for themselves slaphead

So infidelity is an aspect of independence?

Um no, not implying that the 2 are directly correlated

They don't cheat more these days.... we are just in a more 'open' age.

Infidelity is not an aspect of independence...it's always been there.

It was always socially acceptable for men to have mistresses...in the patriarchal societies of previous generations, and historically, women weren't viewed as anything more than goods and chattels.

These days women have more concessions within society, so are able to be more open about affairs.

Once upon a time, (and in some countries, still) a man was applauded for having concubines, mistresses and lovers... and a woman was put to death for doing the same....tends to be a great deterrant for keeping it quiet.

Women have always ended up with the short end of the stick it seems. It is shameless that even now most men see women as property instead of companions.

I use top blame it on the Hip-Hop influence, due to the lyrical content of their music. After thought though I realized that it is not the cause of it, as much as just a revealing view of how it has always been and another try at making it socially acceptable to treat women like cattle and heard them into your bedroom one after another and not care how it makes them feel or what it makes you.

It is a shame that people can't just be loyal and happy with the person they choose. Such is Life...

Go back further.... women are seen as being 'less than' men even within the christian bible, and in some countries, today, religion dictates women are 'owned' by their father, their brothers, their husbands.

Why is it more common these days for women to cheat?

It's because there's a double-standard when it comes to women who cheat-

Here's what I'm talking about- when a woman cheats, people think that she did it because hubby "deserved it". There'll often be some "justifiable reason" for why the lil' woman cheated, despite the fact that cheating is just plain wrong to begin with.

If a dude cheated, then he's considered a cad and should have testicles drawn and quartered. There's no judge, no jury... the dude's just a menace of society and pretty much cast out like chum in the ocean.

The whole "poor, poor victim" thing plays a big part of things for cheatin' wimmins as well, as all they need to do is pour on the faucets and they're almost completely exonerated from any consequences or responsibility for their actions.

Heck- you can even see this kind of malarkey with the rash of female-teachers-screwing-male-students bidness going on as of the last couple of years- instead of people getting REALLY pissed about what essentially amounts to statutory rape, people just gloss over things.

However, if a MALE teacher was caught bangin' his FEMALE students, he'd be set on fire and treated like he was a serial killer. It's one of several reasons why more and more female teachers are having sex with their male students- they can get away with it much more easier.

Another way of looking at it...

How many women does a man have to have sex with, to be a 'legend' and applauded?

And if the woman was to have the same amount of male sexual partners...would she be applauded, or branded a slut?

I can see your point on that one, but it just seems that it is more acceptable to cheat these days.

Or just easier to talk about

I want him but he don't want me, .
He wants somebody else that I can't be.
And she's got a man that she wants to leave,
'Cause he can't seem to make her happy.
Does it have to be wrong to make it feel right?
Tell me why ain't nobody satisfied?

Old man lookin' a photograph,
Of a love that's long gone from his past.
And his wife's got a letter that she can't read,
From a boy who never came back from the sea.
All these secrets or lies we keep deep inside
Does it have to be wrong to make it feel right?
Tell me why there ain't nobody satisfied, yeah?

See that man walkin' down the street,
Yeah, what are the odds, he's the one for me?
An' what if I pass him by an' he's got the love I need?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tell me why there ain't nobody satisfied?

I want him but he don't want me, .
He wants somebody else that I can't be.
And she's got a man that she wants to leave,
'Cause he can't seem to make her happy.

An' what if I pass him by an' he's got the love I need?

That does happen, and I see it often....

I have experienced that personally, just recently, a previous girlfriend was having an affair, and using the 'victim' trump card to hook the lover... whilst the husband thinks he is going completely insane, and is some sick jealous, insecure bastard.

I told her straight, to stop lying her arse off, playing victim, and fess up...

consquently, we are no longer friends, and I am unemployed now.

her husband in his fear of 'losing' her, and his 'marriage', has taken the lie on board, and has been here to my house to defend her....

whatever!

For me... I don't care what your gender is...fess up, be honest, and take the affair into the harsh light of day and see if it is sustainable.

Or better yet, don't get involved in the first place. If you don't wanna stay attached to one person, then don't- just keep doing the "Leisure Suit Larry" thing and find equally-slutty people to hook up with. Don't fool yourself by thinking that your cheating is gonna be curtailed by getting involved in a monogamous relationship.

It gets worse when you get married with kids too, as you're not only subjecting your spouse to your shenanigans, but you also potentially create problems for your offspring, too. People just don't seem to get that your sleeping around effectively stops when you're married with kids- your partying days are pretty much ka-put and you've got more important responsibilities to attend to.
