after 30 years of moving all (most) my treasures were lost. All I have is a picture of my favorite Uncle, some of my Dad and his medals from WWII. but I have the memories of my grandparents, my Dad and the values they gave me. And I pass them on to others.

Yes the values we get as well are pricless

I have a couple of shark's teeth. When my aunt died, my uncle told the story of how my aunt would walk along the beach and find shark's teeth. She just had a special eye for finding them when nobody else could see them. And she was like that in everything she did.... able to see the little things that everyone else was missing.

After the service we were given those shark's teeth as a reminder to try to see those things that others are missing.

Yeh, its very interesting...not a large journal, but enough to get a flavour of wat it was like. Theres 1 part when he talks of approaching a german tank which had already been taken, and describes the scene as "gruesome" as he talks of the germans charred bodies hanging out the tank.

Also softer moments when talking about coming home to the tender love of his wife (my gran)

Thats nice ! I have personlly known a few vets who will not talk about it .They have taken they're stories to the grave ! One left some German pistols to his sons and only said it was me or them !

I have a table from my Grandparents that they had in their den. A diamond pinky ring that I hade into an engagement ring from my Grandfather. I have a crochet'd bedspread from my Mom's Aunt. I can just imagine how long it took her to make it, very fine, detailed work.

It just reminds me.....of how much I miss them, daily.

They are not meant to remind you of that but of the impact they had on our lives . Always remeber the good !
