Because some of us are over men who cant do anything with us or for us. Many of us believe in traditional roles. I make plenty of money, and am willing to go dutch.. but seriously.. Men have been the provider, and breadwinner typicly for many years.. maybe it goes back to how many would like to stay at home with theyre children, and need someone to take care of things. I think if someone is looking for something serious with a man, he should show that he can provide. Besides that.. Ive dated an immigrant busboy, and had a good time, but honestly, walks in the park, and sex only get old.. do you understand? We should all have a balance of what to offer, also, yeah.. we like holidays and birthdays.. I always end up upset if i have a cheap, or broke guy that refuses to get me anything.. why? because I am willing to do for someone in the same ways. I do my best to contribute as well..

But, reality is.. you have to give a little to get a little, and you have stiff competition with men, who are generous. Its about actions, not words.. weve heard em all.. the world does not run on good intensions alone. Id prefer a man to SHOW ME not promise. Im so over that. Ill take material possesions over words anyday.

Television has done a real number on people today. The women and the men, of all countries.Since childbirth every member of this discussion has been subjected to intense "television programming".Rather you wish to admit it or not, the foundation of all of our belief systems has been influenced by the t.v.
A few people have already brought up the fact that it may not just be the women, but that guys are materialistic too.Its really neither here nor there. If you are not looking for that particular trait in someone, then include it on your profile.

Well, I'll be the realistic bummer here. laugh

But, you work hard, get out of school, work, put some money away, buy the bigger house, nicer car, things etc...and then he goes..leaves or dies whichever..and you realize that none of it means anything without someone to share it with.

Wow....
I can see where a guy from a developing country would consider us materialistic...Americans consume most of the world product and dude just wants a date.
I like a good shredding just like anyone else but I don't know if this one deserved to be chopped up and thrown to Bubba like that.
Enter JustAGuy.....now that's a man drinker

Wow. On this point I have to disagree.

Although it may be true that many people have been influenced by television and other mainstream media sources, there are many, many of us who don't rely on television or other media outlets to base our beliefs on.

I will happily admit to being somewhat materialistic. I work hard for my money. I have some pretty nice things. But I, along with millions of others, don't rely on someone else to get them for me. Not to mention, if I don't have the money for what I want, I work to get it.
