buhuh, I guess I should leave you guys.
I was enjoying it though...

Why leave because someone has a different opinion than you do? If you like the forums stick around, if you're trying to date, keep trying, if you don't mind an LDR, find someone who doesn't mind dating someone in another country. There are very different opinions on this site, you can't become intimidated by one or the other. Good luck to you.

I can't afford to date someone outside of the US. You have to consider the cost of travel before you go that far. One of you or both of you has to have enough money and time for travel expenses. If you are only a few states away you can do it by car. It's not very romantic, but money is a reality in this situation.

Everyone has different needs for a relationship. The important thing is to know yours and find someone with common needs. flowerforyou

Next time I'll make better use of the smileys. I don't want anyone to misunderstand me.

It takes time to properly learn good communication skills in the forums. Emoticons or the lack of them can make or break a post. And even then you will be misunderstood 60 percent of the time. ohwell

Posting is easy. Effectively communicating via forum posts can be difficult.

I personally think that LDR's can work for some

We've seen it on here

And at the same time it can't

I guess it depends who you are having that LDR with

Tried it twice ... both times it wasn't my decision to end it

But i'm glad it did , i got to find out that "real" person smokin

Risk nothing, gain nothing, right? flowerforyou

I have traveled once to meet someone from here. It didn't work out but not because of the distance. I don't regret doing it at all.

I so agree, Luis, and the 'real person' will cause one's head to spin around! And? I'm deliriously overjoyed to say I learned SO much, I would never, EVER do it again! NEVER!!!

Locals? Ya can meet instantly and let your gut instinct do the assessing! Are you in, or do you beat a FAST exit!? Running can be quite a necessary option folks ...

1000s of hours in forums, IM and on a phone, conjoined to many months bonding ... can just all be a VERY deceptive trap of a front ... A tangled net!

One WILL convince their self that they KNOW the person like the back of their hand! Well? A hand has 2 sides!!! It Does NOTHING to prepare for the eventuality of FULL REALITY!

Then? Nothing has prepared one for the truth the time in the flesh brings! By then? Though psychic radar and gut alarms may be pounding one to run? One will instead, likely go against the instinct ... and attempt to stick out the promise of the pact the foolish, uninformed of the 'real person' words and time got them into!

How can either run when one of the two just stepped off a jet? Where to? So, a car is also advised as the transpo ...

If an LDR is entertained? Do NOT NOT NOT (!!!) leave out the web cam bit, as crucial information awaits you there; I now fully understand this stern warning! This even applies locally!

ALSO ... The best, though perhaps tortuous, thing can be a verrrrrrrryyyyyyy long (weeks to months!), extended visit upon first meet, in order for one to really peel back the surface and leave no mystery to the unknown, inner real person! Good behaviour can't stay hidden that long!

A short visit could convince one to ignore the gut and stick w/ the false bond and promises ... w/ the truth being even years away if one never gets to fully explore the secrets able to be suppressed in multiple, shorter episodes.

I'd also say meet on their turf and get to know their people, their lifestyle, their life ... or even a twisted, lack thereof!? This also protects one's home and family if this does indeed turn out to be on the disaster side of the odds! It also gives the direct power to cut the visit short, should the evidence mount in the wrong direction!!!

The odds are very stacked against LDRs, for these and all the other reasons already laid out by previous posts. I know of one handful of successful ones, out of a VAST myriad of failed ones! Lucky Dogs, as LDRs have the same odds as as those of of winning the lottery ...

The time I've spent in forums hearing tales of epically failed, absolute LDR disasters, including my own? Make me strongly reiterate Michigan Man's profoundly wise warning:

Chat Globally; Date LOCALLY!
