It's more about the venue. Poetry readings are usually at coffee shops or something and there are a lot of women who go for open mics regarding music.

You get girls who are into photography, writing, music, generally being insane... and it's not a bar so if they're acting retarded it's probably a 24 hour thing.

It's the best luck I've had so far in terms of pre-planned networking.

Well, I've never heard of anything like that around here -- be more likely to find "Drunken Farmers Throwing Boards at Cattle Night" in this part of the state -- but I'll ask around.

A little farther north, in Gary, I might be able to find "Get Shot In A Gang Crossfire Barrage Night," but I doubt if there would be many writers at that one.

Yeah... probably not too many writers at the gang shootout thing. Maybe some cute reporters afterward though.

I suppose living pretty close to Metro-Detroit I'm lucky.

Seriously, though, Indiana scares the hell out of me. I was going on a vacation there one time and I don't ever want to go back. Ever.

You tried the Craigslist writing scene? Sometimes they have listings for get-togethers like that.

Never tried Craigslist myself. I know a guy who tried selling a van on there, and it ended up stolen, along with the money he got for selling it. He got the van back, but yikes.

Then someone hacked his account and was doing all kinds of weird stuff with it.

I'll check and see if there are any creative writing gatherings there, but I'm not hopeful. Around here, if I tell someone I'm a writer, they usually say, "A writer, huh? You writin' 'bout me?" Of course, I have no idea who they are, and I'm pretty sure there's no one in this state worth writing about anyway, but people are so suspicious when it comes to anyone who actually knows how to use apostrophes. Or who knows what they are, for that matter.

When you get bored in a relationship, what do you do?

Not advice-wise.

What do YOU actually do?

I actually went on a mini vacation with the fellas. Had fun, raised hell, came back home and my ex wife loved on me for like three hours. Ahhhhhhhh. Great memory.
