I did it - I found a great new job with a company I have been interested in for awhile!! But it requires a move! So I am moving to the big city. I'm really excited but a little nervous too!
I'll take comments from well wishers and advice from those who reside in larger urban areas! Danke/Bitte! Oh, and should I go on vacation for a few days, or should I bust my butt and have everything packed a day ahead of the move date?

Congrats on landing the new job! Change can be both exciting and scary at the same time but definitely worth it in the long run.
 I live in a small town so I don't have any big city advice other then keep your doors locked.  As for a vacation I think you should definitely do it. Use this time to unwind and enjoy yourself before you start out on your new adventure. I wish you all the best!

I think I am going to try to do both...Spend sometime today & tomorrow packing and then take one or 2 nights in Amish Country - something I have wanted to do for awhile now in the hills in eastern Ohio I just might so that thanks ladies can u imagine though - no internet for 3 days!!!! |

First off Congrats on the new job!!!
Secondly, pack non-essentals for a day or so, then take that well deserved vacation. That way you can come back refreshed for the big move. |

First off Congrats on the new job!!! Secondly, pack non-essentals for a day or so, then take that well deserved vacation. That way you can come back refreshed for the big move. thanks, that is what I am thinking - with a new job it will be awhile before I can take vacation again, and the job search was NOT a vacation even though I was off work for a few weeks - it's been stressful interviewing and trying to find an apartment at the same time - trying to decide whether to move or take a job locally - a lot of stressful decisions - I really could use to decompress for a few days!! THanks!

Once you get there and are unpacked enough to get by, go find a neighborhood pub and unwind a tad. Get to know the locals which are there even in the big city. When I moved to Glasgow, I lived a few floors over the cutest, poshest, most out of the way pub ever, and I always said, 'ill go there real soon' ...but I never got around to it! One of my big regrets. I live in a swell small town now with hills and open sky and mini-zebu, ponies, goats etc a short walk away. No cute, posh, out of the way pub. Congrats! and Have a grand adventure! yes, once I learn the area I plan to move into the country also, but I think being in the city awhile will make it easier to meet people in a new town - ans keep me close to work, allow me time to learn the area & decide where to put down roots - so to speak thanks for the pub advice - I love the way we can learn from each other's mistakes on here! IDK that women going into bars alone is as readily accepted in the US - we do not have pubs in the same sense that you do |

Make it a half and half-Take half a day and do something relaxing (like going to a movie or something) and the other half packing... getting a little jump on things will make it less stressful!
