God hateth a lying tongue. Some people feel justified in telling a lie if the end is good, but there is no good end that starts from a lie...lies stink period.

Is it a lie if you say it to not hurt someone? Like when we tell my Dad he is just getting forgetful instead of getting him all upset by telling him he has Alzheimer's?

But if it is about something serious, damaging something, hurting someone or something bigger than that, it can come back and bite you on the tookus.

I agree Eileen.. Sometimes you have to lie to save feelings... Sometimes just not saying anything is best if you can do that... There are some truths that are just not necessary to tell and can cause more harm than good... I made all kinds of excuses to my Gram's before she passed, no need in upsetting her when she had so little time left..

So you could forget that you had it every hour and have to have it explained again and again and again?

We did that the first couple of times, but listening to him scream and curse at everyone and everything and cry for the next 20 minutes just isn't worth it. He then brings up something that his father once told him, that he was "stupid" and then cries his father was right about him all these years.

This disease sux because long-term memories are bright as day but things said five minutes ago, never happened.

I think that we have to live our lives according to what is acceptable for us.. I am not saying I don't believe in the 10 commandments but I do believe that we are allowed to be kind even if that means telling a white lie to protect someone in some way... I will take my chances on hell to be a kind person on earth...

I pray you never have to take care of someone with this disease, Cheer... You find yourself doing things you don't like, just to keep them calm. My Dad gets violent (something he never did before this) when he gets told he is sick.

yes its very sad sorry to hear but its not me saying if its right to have a white lie or not its in the Bible and if the bible is the word of God we can't take are own ways i guess it be better to change a different topic with him then lie i suppose:)

Not the same thing.. They weren't your family.. The emotional investment is different...

You can't change the subject.....he remembers that he just asked a question and he wants an answer for that question. If you change the subject, he starts banging his cane on the ground and slamming his fists into the door or wall. The easiest way to calm him down is to just say "Dad you are just getting forgetful, there is a lot going on."

I think God will forgive us for telling him that so that he doesn't hurt himself or anyone else. If we didn't and Dad wound up hitting Mom and hurting/killing her, wouldn't that be worse?
