Hey the New England states are a breeze to drive through...it's when you get to Texas that the long drives begin..but the trip would be worth it!! laugh

I'll trust you on that one bigsmile But after having to through NYC on I95 during rush hour a few times to visit back home before I decided to do the Tappanzee Bridge route, well ANYTHING is a breeze after that bigsmile Gas could be an issue even going to visit my kids as that is a three day drive AND my car is a V8 gas guzzler  laugh

What you don't know: I turned down not one, not two, but three trips to Hawaii before because it would mean FLYING there. And on another time REALLY pissed off my only daughter by not flying noway I get too nervous and anxious before, during and after flying. But if my kids ever REALLY needed me.... I'd board a plane to get there, just don't tell them that  bigsmile

Look in to renting a car that is easier on gas. Week long rates are cheap & no milage chg. Where are your kids located.

It's a catch 22. You save the gas on renting a small gas efficient car, but when going any distance driving you get cramped and uncomfortable in the seats and don't feel as safe with nothing in front of you and nothing behind you (I'm old school in that thought) whoa My daughter and son in law have lived in some interesting places. But they moved to Denver about three years ago. My daughter talked one of her brothers into moving there too. They just bought a small one bedroom cottage there so I think they'll stay there for a while, but my son still rents so there's always hope he decides to move a little closer to home  But I'm glad that they have support with each other close by if needed.

My ex-husband and I rented a Nissan Altima to drive to California to see my mother. It was the best car I have ever driven! Smooth ride, comfortable seats, GREAT on gas!!!

No not yet sad When my daughter was looking for a house I would have loved to have gone there to help, and again after they bought the one they found. But I just haven't gotten there yet. The pics of the mountains and city look beautiful. I've also seen pics of the botanical garden there and would love to see the flowers in bloom. Their city has alot to offer and evidently they have some really cheap baseball seats in a certain section called the rock pile(if you get them in time) and in the winter they have a beautiful ice sculpture contest. So I plan to get there to visit some day (even with a three day drive). Of course I have relatives in Ohio that I could fit on the way so it might even take a little longer(ha). But the kids have driven home or flown home for certain things, but it's not like they live down the streetfrustrated If I ever get there, I'll be sure to post pics herebigsmile Oh I did look into meds to help with the anxiety on a plane.... after some long thinking about it, just not an option for me noway And yet my kids have no trouble popping on a plane and heading around the world. One even pays good money to jump out of planes....go figure bigsmile

Jemare.... Im right there with you on the flying thing! This girl does not fly! Im a basket case starting about 2 days before. Panic attacks, shaking, the whole 9 yards. Would a train be an option? It sounds boring but if you get a private car it can be fun! You even have your own bathroom and a little pull out bed!

I don't know about that... one ran into the side of my brother's pick up truck before and you would have thought that it was a car that broad-sided it, not a deer laugh

Irish: I have thought about a train too bigsmile I just don't know about being cooped up in a box for that long a time with alot of people and I don't think I could afford a private car. Who knows, maybe I'll hit that powerball and buy my own trainbigsmile laugh
