If you keep an open mind, anything you learn may be useful in your future life. So learn what you can about hardware.
Ya never know when it may come in handy.

I would be hard pressed to say any education is wasted but I suppose it is relative to how common your degree is in relation to the market at the time.

At 23 you have to work hard at whatever job you have to build a reputation of being a consistent, producer with excellent attitude and not the over anxious entitled educated brat that more senior people may see you as.

Hopefully you are in a company that will let you in house transfer to the field you want to be in but even if you are not you want to be documenting you are a star employee if you want to move up or move to another employer in a tough economy.

I would make certain I had at least a year to three before I did anything to torpedo the job you have. Be smart keep your work life out of social media, financial affairs in order, and your private life private so you can be prime real estate for a professional head hunter . I would subscribe to a professional magazine or organization and invest in a few conferences for professional development.

By the way congratulation on your accomplishments so far. Nice to see young talent. Welcome to Mingle.
