Local calls were only a dime on the rotary pay phones and you only had to dial the last four numbers.

In a way I agree. But you also have to consider the reasons for people being on a blog or forum. Usually it's with different intentions from reading a book.
I don't feel like reading a tome on a forum, a blog is slightly different yet again.
And in this day and age our brains get flooded with so much more information that maybe we just have to become more selective with what else we're going (and are willing) to put in there.
Many things got far more complex as well. I mean, try reading the manual of a Smartphone. Drives you nuts and takes 3 days to get through. The old phone with a dial didn't require a manual.
In a way it is demanded of us to read far more than we ever done before. If I just think about myself, almost everything I do, involves reading. Reading manuals, reading mail, reading forums, blogs. And in my spare time I like to ... read a book.

I suppose much verbal interaction got replaced by written interaction, meaning we have to read much much more than let's say 15 years ago. Kind of logical our brains skip bits and pieces.
Reading tomes on a blog/forum is like listening to a monologue, which most don't really enjoy. Hence skipping (I guess?)

There's a psychological bit involved as well, but won't get into that, to avoid writing a tome, making people read even more, haha

This site is my first experience to the internet. My 'penis' brought me to the site and now I'm reading, writing and reseachingwhatI should have known he would spring another one on me, constantly screwing up, just a life time of bonners. really thats true, how ironic , and life is funny that way.So as well as learning more about myself,( threads like
this realy can get my kannoodler going) so medical conditions aside
it comes down to interest. If I go on to threads and there is already
4 pages of posts and most of it is a lot of socializing with quote
on quote then the effort will out weigh the prize for me, I will have
no interest.I think people will exell where their interest lies.
I am completely a right sphere thinker and the control centre for language is all left frontal lobe and I still can excell if its my
interest.its like responding here, I'm struggling like heck, and the
dyslexia is a small part to the big picture.

Yeah, I am a right sphere person as well. You know this image of the rotating woman? Trying to make her rotate the other way so you use the other side of your brain?
Bloody annoying, lol, but once you get the hang of it, really easy. Until the next time you try and struggle again, haha.
And yeah, a good conversation at times is nice :)
