I once forgot my words and called someone a "Chronological Liar" (Which of course is the best liar to be....remembering your timeline and all.)

Or, "Dropping the fig leaf" when you meant "Extending the olive branch".

Then of course we all know (Back to the Future) Bif saying, "Why don't you be like a tree...and Get Outta Here!!!"

Have you ever forgotten your words/sayings, or been confused by someone who did?

Nah, I am freaking literal.
And not in a good way.

When I was little, I sorely confused 'shoulder' and 'soldier.'
So, I might still say..'shoulder on' when I mean 'soldier on.'
Or, 'hello shoulder, buy a girl a drink?'

Weird thing is, no one ever notices :-)

NICE Hello Shoulder!!

Went out with a Brazilian girl (imagine the Portuguese accent) who asked "Why is everything a piece of pie or easy as cake? Desserts are one of the hardest things to make!"

But I hear her sister Prudence puts out.

Good thread, but I can't think of any.

It is suppose to be '6 of 1, half a dozen of another', I said something like 'half of one, 15 of another'..

Another time I was tutoring some kids while living on the houseboat of an Isreali family (english not their first language), sailing the Mediterranean for the summer..I was pointing to a fish in the water and I said 'Look at the gigantic fish' but instead of pronouncing it gi-Gantic, I pronounced it gi-Jantic. I didn't even realize I had said it wrong, til the mom said, 'Yes kids, look at the giGANTIC fish' (emphasizing the GANTIC part of the word). LOL I felt like the worst english teacher ever...

My cover for mispronouncing the word was 'Oh yes, sometimes we Canadians pronounce things differently then they do in other countries, that's just how we pronounce it' whoa

Natives of English-speaking nations are constantly being taught to mispronounce the Spanish word "llama".

In the Spanish language, the "LL" letter combination is pronounced like a "Y".

For some strange reason, English-speaking people can pronounce the Spanish word "tortilla" correctly but not the Spanish word "llama". Go figure.

I remember learning about the war when I was a kid in School and for some reason I thought Hitlers first name was Heil, as in Heil Hitler.
How stupid did I feel when I realised his first name was Adolph.
This was after asking the teacher a question about Heil Hitler in front of the whole class. Needless to say, I started paying more attention. OMG, the things that scar you for life:smile:
