There is a difference between ...

... the unavoidable ethnocentrism that goes along with the creation of a website ...

... and the ethnocentric comments made by people on a website that was created to benefit people of all nationalities.

* * * * * *

For example, being that Mingle2 was created in the USA, member profiles express the height of members in feet and inches, despite the fact that most nations use the metric system. This particular form of ethnocentrism was most likely unavoidable.

Yet, the creators of Mingle2 didn't mandate that only the American standard of measurements be used in discussion threads.

* * * * * *

Being that Mingle2 was created in the USA, it uses the American spelling of words in certain features.

Yet, the creators of Mingle2 didn't mandate that only the American spelling of words be used in discussion threads.

* * * * * *

Being that Mingle2 was created in the USA, its title and features are spelled out in the English language.

Yet, the creators of Mingle2 didn't mandate that only the English language can be used in discussion threads.

* * * * * *

Thus far, people here have pointed out the unavoidable ethnocentrism that appears on websites such as this one.

I want non-Americans on this site to talk about the unnecessary ethnocentrism that shows up on sites like this one.

gladly,, it is always UNNECSSARY to belittle others intellect UNTIL they have introduced the topic in an attempt to belittle another

whether they are genuinely of lower intellect or FALSELY perceived based upon a cultural difference,,,

and then it is but the HIGHER ROAD to not engage or react,,,

however, just as the site does not MANDATE, it also doesn't PROHIBIT individual comments about individual perceptions

grownups should be able to refrain from most of the PERSONAL attacks that happen here,, and those which may stem from a cultural difference, are included,,

It may be nice if, especially when talking of war we define it correctly.
I am British I am not at war.
War is were two or more sides clash with violence. Invading and occupation is not war.
I am British and not at war. The politicians in Britain are conducting themselves in such a way I do not agree with.
The British generally are not at war nor do they want war. I have a family and do not wish to lose them to bombs or bullets provided by politicians.
I hope the general American and French populations think the same.

Politicians seem to be Lawyers and the wealthy. They speak for the few but have the finances of the masses. I worry for the future of today's civilisation if building new ones on top of the destroyed continues.

This thread would probably get more replies from non-Americans if a moderator hadn't moved it to the "Politics, Current News & Events" forum.

This thread doesn't pertain to politics or current news or special events.
Yet, it is here. Go figure.

if it contribute to the deciding of any laws of any country, than it certainly seems it would be part of the political process, and it is pretty hard not to see how the very definition of ethnocentric does have large impact upon the laws instituted by any and all countries.

smiles...

it seems all things that occurred in history, including even theory's, and all actual proven events that occur, did and do contribute to the total sum of governance and so are part of the political process as they are all factors of the total outcome.

eh....international? Perhaps language translator tools would be deployed on said site. Customs? That's an individual preference if persons would like to learn.
