The Odd Life of Timothy Green a quiet, quaint movie directrd by Peter Hedges (who wrote "what's eating gilbert grape" and "about a boy") I kept getting told to watch this movie and never did, then one day I did, well I loved it, shed a tear even... |

Punishment Park (1971) Disturbing mockumentary.
The Vietnam War is escalating and United States President Richard Nixon has just decided on a "secret" bombing campaign in Cambodia. Faced with a growing anti-war movement, President Nixon decrees a state of emergency based on the McCarran Internal Security Act of 1950, which authorises federal authorities, without reference to Congress, to detain persons judged to be a "risk to internal security". Members from the anti-war movement, civil rights movement, feminist movement, conscientious objectors, and Communist party, mostly university students, are arrested and face an emergency tribunal made up of community members. With state and federal jails at their top capacity, the convicted face the option of spending their full conviction time in federal prison or three days at Punishment Park. There, they will have to traverse 53 miles of the hot California desert in three days, without water or food, while being chased by National Guardsmen and law enforcement officers as part of their field training. If they succeed and reach the American flag at the end of the course, they will be set free. If they fail by getting "arrested", they will serve the remainder of their sentence in federal prison. In 1977 a forgettable crappy horror movie titled The Demon Lover was released, about the only interesting thing it had going for it was the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface Gunnar Hansen was in it.
In 1980, a couple who filmed their experience working on the The Demon Lover was released: Demon Lover Diary- Showing the complications of filming a low budget movie, boredom from long hours, stress of no money, egos, and a very strange visit to Ted Nugent's house. Probably one of the best entertainment-related documentaries I've seen, and actually is far better than the film it is documenting. |

It's an old black-and-white movie, but I was impressed by "My Son, My Son", starring Brian Aherne and Louis Hayward (and Madeleine Carroll). It's about a widower father who tries to raise his son with everything he (the father) never had as a boy - and the consequences of spoiling your child.
