What I was told dating was is different than what I have experienced. I am curious to hear from others what dating truly is?

VD's lol. Actually who knows, young people talk about so many things nowadays.

But first off, welcome to the forum, and I see this as a genuine question. From my somewhat brief experience on this site (I haven't dated since my divorce myself) and advice here on the forums (which I advise to take with a lot of amusement and a big grain of salt), the most important thing nowadays is to be very clear as to what YOU expect on a first date. You'll often see this posted in profiles as well.

So, basically, a lot of communication before meeting your date will put pretty clear boundaries on expectations. Don't be afraid to ask questions that are important to you. I find folks a lot more open talking about personal stuff, especially where intimacy is concerned.

Hope I didn't add to the confusion.

And, happy dating!

For myself I just look at a first date as a get to know each other. No huge expectations. Find a nice place in public like a coffee shop or restaurant (no movies). Just relax and see what happens...if anything just enjoy having a nice time out. Best wishes!

Actually there are two answers or more! Depends on the person you met or want to meet! First date should be casual and fun or just coffee to see if you click! Some people just want one night stand nothing more! Depend on who u r looking for! Wish u well ! Search wisely !

Been on some dates where I was expected to perform and others felt like a pass or fail situation. Is that all dating has come down to?

I am describing real life. I guess what I want to know is what do you call it when you want to go out with a person and just have fun(not sex)?
