I think the funniest I got was this am...
Email stated.. I tried your number and it didn't work... I am like Gee that is because I didn't give it to you and I never will...  I think he jumped a couple of steps there.. No I haven't called the numbers... and I honestly can't say I will.. I would have to be really bored... somehow I can't see myself that bored.. I know Pancho gets numbers in his inbox.. |

Just curious, has anyone ever phoned one of these phone numbers that you get in PMs? Just for the heck of it? Would they really be their own phone numbers, I wonder? I mean, you wouldn't send out your own number randomly to just anyone unless it was a burner? Or are these numbers as fake as the people who send them? And do women send their phone numbers to you guys as well? Women, or I guess I should say scammers pretending to be women, do send phone numbers to us. I find the same thing as germanchoclate1981 mentions, ask them to keep talking on Mingle and they mysteriously vanish. I've had a few that don't even bother to say hello in the first message, they just leave a number and nothing else. So I take their number and sign them up on a couple of sites for text messaging alerts, news headlines, health tips during their pregnancy, stuff like that. Not sure if it annoys them or not but it makes me feel better

Yes, us guys get the scam numbers. No, haven't tried calling one because I don't want to even find out what kind of scam they're running. Hell, with my luck it'd probably screw up my phone, or enter my number into a whole bunch of more scams. Or just add an exorbitant amount of charges to my phone bill which I don't need.

If you're truly curious, do a reverse phone number search. It won't give a name unless you pay but it will tell you what carrier the number is from. So most likely if it's a VOiP, stay away from it. Sometimes it will say if it's a number related to a scam.

Nope have not called them but have done reverse lookup on many of them... If it is a landline yes you can find out where it is street address and all..
But if it is a cell phone it will not give you all the info unless you pay. But it will tell you where the number is generated from...

A scam here in the UK some years back required you to call an unknown telephone number, which resulted in an immediate payment to them by your 'phone company to an offshore account, none recoverable, and added to your bill. Not sure whether it is still possible because there was a police investigation as a result of this scam, but better safe than sorry. |

Once upon a time I was vaguely tempted to call just to see what was on the other end (emphasis on "what"), but I've never done it. I try not to give out my phone number except to people/companies I know in real life (and know fairly well), but somehow that hasn't stopped my number from getting out to weird numbers who call me up and don't say anything, or want to give m a free/discounted trip to the Bahamas, etc.
I'm much more comfortable chatting online. If you trust someone, then I think the next step is something like Skype voicechat/videochat, where you can control what they see on your end. Then, if things still look legit, you can meet them in a busy public place sometime down the road. |
