Published reports speak to another commuter train that had been stopped a couple miles away after the window on the engine had been penetrated by an 'unknown projectile'. The engineer on that train had not been injured, but had stopped his train for investigation.
The projected speed on the crashed train was 100 mph according to news sites. I admit to having no idea how a modern train is operated, but I'm wondering if you can shoot an engine (would take incredible skill) while moving, and cause it to become a 'runaway' that can't be stopped? |

CNBC reporting 7th confirmed fatality and also reports train was traveling at 100mph in a curve where the speed limit was 50mph. http://www.cnbc.com/id/102675247 This happened 9:15-9:30 pm. I started looking & reading about 3-4 am. Articles say, the train slowed down, that witnesses said that. ... so did Washington DC, radio. That, & the fact that it is the busiest (I have been on it), & the Military (especially in Annapolis MD) & Public Servants use it frequently.... REALLY peaked my interest. So I'm checking about the speed of the train.... suspicious.  |

SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri Williams said. No injuries were reported & the train was HELD at the North Philadelphia Station. The 80 passenges were TRANSFERRED to buses. 3-4 minutes later & 4 miles away * = 40 city blocks * the Amtrak detailed. to begin with. They average a catastrophic derailment, with fatalities, at least once, every five years. Way too soon to play the terrorism card. |

True, as in my 2nd post, I mentioned, old rails & infrastructure.
However... with the protests/ riots in Baltimore MD & Philadelphia PA & both being major Metropolitan cities... don't blame me for connecting dots, in my own back yard. Terrorist- a person who uses terrorism in the pursuit of political gain. Terrorism- 1- Acts of violence committed by groups that view themselves as victimized by some notable historical wrong. 2- The use of violent acts to frighten the people in an area as away of trying to achieve a political goal. *Motivated by religious fervor, politics or greed * U.S.A. Something had to have happened to the operator. Well... Its not like the train can simply veer off the track, if the engineer goes to sleep. Modern safety features, include a "dead man" deceleration/brake system. If the operator lets go of the hand grip, the train is suppose to come to an automated emergency stop. ............ 102 mph? Gonna be interesting when the engineer gives a statement. The safety systems are supposed to provide audible alarms of excessive speed, and automatically slow the train if the engineer doesn't respond.
Apparently he applies the emergency brakes at the last second and slows the train 3-4 mph before it derails. So did he fall asleep? Ignore the alarms? Did the train get away from him? Was this an attempt to do with a train what the Germanwings pilot did with his plane? Is he a Muslim convert hoping to impress ISIS and Allah? So many questions. I heard a talking head on CNN this afternoon say that if an engineer exceeds the posted limit by even 10 mph, he can be stripped of his federal certification to operate a train. So it obviously begs the question how do we get 50 mph over the limit? |

Being that they said nothing of normal braking attempts leads me to conclude that whatever he was doing had nothing to do with paying attention to where he was on the line. I realize that we have rights as citizens and I certainly can understand a desire to lawyer up being in his situation, but if there were a mechanical failure in the braking system I would damn sure bet that he would have been talking by now. |

The speed issue is an issue with me.
I definitely read & heard on the Washington DC radio, that Witness said " it slowed down " And New Jersey, who did NOT have to close down all Amtrak entirely.. did. * I think it was originally, just Trenton* And the passenges did not fit the manifold list... so are they missing? Who are they? Sniffer dogs have been out there for hours. Not being able to identify the dead or contact the families yet, is understandable. Lots of weird & unanswered questions. |

Being that the NTSB is calling for increased funding for AMTRAK if they had any chance to link this to lack of money then they would have been all over the news saying it was a mechanical problem.
