Would you? Have you? Why? Why not? Do you think there is power in numbers? One person's coal is another's future bed warmer?

Invite people to mingle? Would you?

No.
But I'd invite them to go out to dinner or something.
If they asked me about dating sites I might say something about this one and all others I know about.

why? why not?

Why would I invite someone to come on here to chat with or whatever rather than just go chat or whatever with them, or email them normally?

Do you think there is power in numbers?

I don't think it matters all that much on the internet.

The only time people seek out power in numbers is if they want to apply that power to something.

If people just come here to chat, then "power in numbers" is really a bad idea.

If people unite on a website it just becomes a "clique."
They then proceed to push off the "bad" ones, that don't conform to the cliques idea of what it should be, and ultimately any "new" people (unintentionally) are pushed away or repelled because they can't instantly conform to the tacit rules that everyone else seems to understand and accept.

Over time, that "clique" or group gets old.
And people leave for something new, more provocative, better, accepting.

One person's coal is another's future bed warmer?

Either way, one person sells the coal, and the other burns it up, leaving neither with any coal and having to go out and find new sources for it.

Good points.

I was thinking that someone who gave me a Mingle address might not know me well enough or vice versa to exchange something as personal as a phone number or private email, or their job number. I have gotten numerous local dates suggesting getting to know each other here. Definitely lead to some interesting dates from people who did not live in the area but wanted to be sure what the whole interest was about. So many people hate being hit up to buy stuff.

The whole power of numbers idea is that some of the people you would invite would be more friends that potential dates. I have older and younger friends, even Mingle friends, introduce me to nice people. How I met the most likeable people so far. Was how I met my late husband and the next significant person.

I guess I have not really had that much reverb from any kind of clique on Mingle. I am sure it happens but then I often see that as like ages or interests. I have hooked up a couple people who are into the "Horror Movie " thing that does nothing for me personally but the friendship benefited me by meeting one of their friends that found it as boring as I did but liked acting and theater in general.

I have a friend who is a shut in most of the time. It's a long story, and not mine to tell. sad2 I've been trying to encourage her to join mingle for the forums. I think she wold benefit from the human contact.

Nah Brickey; People of like character often have different interests and appearance so a friend can often date someone that would be no competition to you at all.

Now they might feel a bit in your shadow but hey not all guys can be as cute/funny/nice as you.

I would recommend it, the forums are good fun and it's an international site so you get to read many points of view. It's a good social site as well, if you are not looking for a partner, and long may it continue.

I also know somebody that is virtually housebound and have suggested that he try something like this.

As far as the numbers things goes though, I don't consider this as a networking site and for me, the forums have nothing to do with getting dates. Forumites represent a tiny proportion of people that use this site. They want to be here because they like it, or are possibly just bored. The people that are just on here for dating generally want to get out of here ASAP. I myself, wasn't on here for a year because I had met somebody that I liked.
