Hello everyone, I just signed up here and have realised that most of my mutually-interested people are in a place far far away from where I am. Is it advisable to kindle a relationship with them/her? Please help. Thanks. xoxo

Make sure that they aren't after you for something else, like your banking information or home address. If you're sure the relationship is legitimate, long-distance can be manageable, but it will also be aggravating at times. This is especially true if you or your partner or both are after things like having a family, moving in together, or actually sharing that first milkshake with the heart-shaped straw.

Also have some way to make sure that the person you're talking with can validate what they say - there are plenty of people on the internet who can keep "relationships" going for a long time based on nothing but lies. After a while (six months, maybe), if your love interest still isn't interested in sharing things like phone numbers, private email addresses, or detailed information about their lifestyle, their politics, their religion, etc, etc, then consider that a big flapping red flag.

Thanks! That's some great piece of advice. Really appreciate it.

LDR'S work if and here is some of the big ifs...

Keep it real not fantasy land.To many build up a fantasy in their minds of who the other person is without really seeing the other person is just a person.

Know going in who is going to be the one that will move.

Get the meet and greet over with as soon as possible.

Being honest right to the point of it being painful at times.

Communication is paramount.

You have to keep things so real that you have disagreements over the airwaves...

You have to know yourself inside and out to understand what you can do and what you can't do.

Yes....

I/we believe it can work, but it is certainly not for everyone and its not a relationship to be taken lightly.....
It is hard work that requires constant maintenance, every day you must phone, text, viber, skype, whatsapp....whatever...."communication is key"

One or both of you must make visits....I stress...this is vital in the bonding process.....
You also need a concrete plan on what you envisage your future to be....
Obviously one of you is going to have to move.....are you prepared for that?.....

We are making it work....our closest friends here know of our bond.....and our unique circumstances that led us to ultimately fall for each other.....this is a key factor in our success.....

LDR couples that make it work, will all have something special in that regard.....

Be prepared for a hard slog.....but if it is meant to be...it a wonderful thing...

It's amazing to see mostly positives here, with strings attached of course. I also quite understand skepticism and negativity, which was one of the reasons why I posted here. However, after going through each one of your thoughts and advice(s), I think I will be okay with starting something meaningful if the right person comes along regardless of geographic location. Thank you, all.

@Mikey: Really glad that things worked out for you. :D
