I'm new and I had a chance to chat with this one guy, and he was just too good to be true. How do you know if he's not a catfish?

Investigate. ..ask questions...
Be careful. ..your very pretty.

"To good,to be true"...sounds..on the money,to me.

Sounds to me like...your Gut,is questioning it alreadyflowerforyou

Go with your FIRST instinct...it is almost always correct.

Well one of the first thing I do is run their pictures through a reverse image engine and if it is iffy I run it through a few more.. Then I take it nice and slow and easy I would trust but verify...

Good luck out here.

Seriously trust your intuition, scammers usually fade away after a few contacts, don't be afraid to ask questions. Best of luck to you.

Meet in public. Don't stay online chatting.

That's me though.

That's how I "know."

Otherwise it's pure speculation.

I don't think you CAN know, until you feel something is really off about them. I was let down numerous times, by a man. I let him off, the first two times, as I thought it was just a glitch, after that it just kept happening. Even to this day, I'm still shocked that our mutual friends forgave him for abandoning me. I'm one of the least bitter people on this planet, but I can't help feeling slightly bitter about him.

Like the others said, trust you gut, try to meet in person, check out his story and I don't care what they say, but if they always agree with you or keep saying you and them have so much in common, then like you said "too good to be true".

I'm upfront about not being in a hurry to every get married again. Just ended my second one and I don't like the way either wife changed during the marriage. But when I tell women that, seems to turn them off, which is ironic since they want honesty in the first place.

And don't get me on the marriage soapbox, after what the US supreme court just did to marriages. I think marriages should be removed from the states and if I was governor of a state, I would propose it getting out of the marriage business and divorce business as well. Think about it, why does states need to be involved in it anyway?

And you know the real reason I think the US supreme court voted that way in the first place? For equality? BS. It's to increase the client base for divorce attorneys. Bottom line, like everything else, boils down to the good ole dollar.

Lots and lots of interaction.....
Write to each other every day.....
Chat with each other every day...as often as possible.....
Keep up constant contact....before committing to a meeting.....

Two things will happen.....
You will learn much about each other....this will lead to your real selves being exposed.....
Or he will become impatient and want to meet.....then he is not for you....

I stress, this getting to know each other by phone and mail....
long term will expose if he is real or not.....
Combined with Google searches and whatever other means....

Take care and be safe....drinker

Follow your instincts, when in doubt ... don't. And obviously with making the thread, you have doubts.

You can see if his photo is real on Tineye.com It's a reverse image search engine, Google has one too.

It's not always 100% but worth a bash, could tell you instantly if his photos are fake at least
