Both were charged with misdemeanor drug possession and carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics, but Robinson — an All-SEC left tackle and potential first-round NFL Draft pick next year — was also charged with a felony for illegal possession of a stolen firearm. They have been released on bond. “We are aware of the situation involving Hootie Jones and Cam Robinson and are in the process of gathering facts to determine what internal action needs to be taken,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said in a statement. According to the incident report, a police officer observed a parked car at 2:33 a.m. and detected a “strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.” The officer said he spotted a handgun on the lap of the passenger (Jones) and a bag of marijuana on the floor of the drivers side.
