1 hen can lay up to 300 eggs a year (in 1900, average egg production was 83 eggs per hen per year. In 2000, it was well over 300)...they generally have up to 125,000 hens at 1 laying farm, which i can't find out how many egg farms there are in the US...( 280 million hens laid 77.3 billion eggs in 2007.) so why are the eggs at 3.50 a dozen now????

they say 10% of hens were lost in 2015, due to bird flu... i don't get the over 200% price increase...

my local grower didn't lose any that i know of i think you will find it has a lot more to do with growing a larger profit margin than growing more layers

answer : greed
the same reason they jacked all the other prices up in the store and blamed it on gas prices
gas came down and the prices are still going up

No, it's not all greed, nor is it any of the things various politicians might want you to think (such as those who want everyone to blame safety and health regulations for all price rises).

The main thing to realize, is that MATERIALS COSTS are the very LEAST part of the cost of ANY product.

this, i suspect, is the main reason, with greed and fuel secondary...

Obonzo...

Generally speaking, prices for all food products skyrocketed, especially during the first two years of the current administration.

Our egg prices skyrocketed a while back. They're like golden eggs now. My brother got some chickens. So we're all good now.
