There currently is technology to equip each airline jet with parachutes, yet the airlines refuse to implement them with the device. Should there be a law passed to ensure that each and every airlines jet be fitted with parachutes?

I fly a lot. It may work on small aircraft, maybe commuter size planes, but I can't see it working on the larger ones. Getting 300 people into parachutes and jumping out of a plane going 600 miles a hour in a nose dive would be some feat.

There are "whole plane" chutes for small aircraft that deploy in case of engine failure or whatnot. But for a commercial jet? Under what conditions would these chutes deploy? Or are you talking about individual chutes for each passenger? Ejection seats maybe? Don't forget about what's going to happen to someone whose ejection seat suddenly fires at thirty-thousand feet and five-hundred miles an hour while he's sipping a cocktail and fiddling with his smart-phone.

The problem with airliners is that the passengers are unable to use a parachute correctly, moreover even if they know, at this altitude they die of asphyxiate.

I agree with all the comments. If we put in all these safety devices, only the super rich will be able to air travel. On jet fighters there are anti missile defense systems, good idea but they only go on 2.2 billion dollar fighters.

I worked on fighter jets. There isn't a fighter jet out yet that cost a billion dollars. A missile defense system on a commercial airliner (scanner, chaff, and flares) wouldn't cost more than fifty or sixty thou at the very most on an airliner costing several million. But what would be the point unless the plane constantly flies in dangerous air space?
