well a little bit of this and a little bit of that
but the half truths and distortions were not reasons
they were justifications. lame ones. window dressing.

Junior wouildn't even listen to his own father. Senior wrote in his book about what would happen if we had taken down Sadaam during the first Gulf War. And it's just what's happening now.

When asked if he had consulted his father, he replied that he speaks to a "higher father". So I guess God told him to do it.

Jan. 2009 can't come soon enough.

A quote from nationally-syndicated radio host Jim Rome in response to a caller saying we are in Iraq for the oil:

"We are NOT there for the oil. We are there to liberate these people..errr, that's what they've been telling us ever since they couldn't find any WMDs."

I've always found it facinating that these two quotes were said at almost the EXACT same time:

"We are NOT liberators!"-George W. Bush.
"We will be greeted as liberators."-Richard Cheney.

Why are we there? Who REALLY knows?

I do know this mess has turned out EXACTLY as I predicted it would from the very beginning--that Iraq would indeed become a "welfare state", with the US signing the welfare checks.

It's been almost five years since we invaded Iraq. I realize that we'll always have some sort of a presence over there. But considering the high troop level there today, that tells me that the Iraqis aren't interested in the slightest in fending for themselves. And seriously, why should they? Remember, welfare recipients are alike the world over--the last thing they want to do is something that'll cause them to lose the charity they're given. That's why the "deadline" was so important--not to have a troop withdrawl, but to show the Iraqis that the time for them to take care of themselves is drawing closer. Until they realize that, they'll continue to lag aroung and recieve their welfare, just like all good little recipients do.

Well, rightly or wrongly, that's how I feel about this situation.
