With its demands for steps to protect the security of its citizens unmet, the state of Texas on Wednesday said it will no longer participate in the Obama administration’s refugee resettlement program.

Texas had demanded that any refugees resettled in the state receive extensive security checks to ensure that refugees are not terror threats. The federal government would not agree to the plan Texas has proposed.

As a result, the state has written to the Office of Refugee Resettlement to announce that Texas will withdraw from the program on Jan. 31, 2017.

“The federal government’s refugee settlement program is riddled with serious problems that pose a threat to our nation,” Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, said in a statement. “The director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the director of national intelligence have repeatedly declared their inability to fully screen refugees from terrorist-based nations. Even with the inability to properly vet refugees from Syria and countries known to be supporters or propagators of terrorism, President Obama is now ineptly proposing a dramatic increase in the number of refugees to be resettled in the U.S.”

The action taken by Texas follows terrorist incidents over the weekend in Minnesota, New York and New Jersey.

So...no more refugees after Obama leaves office.
Great.
Obama wouldn't do anything like try to increase the number of refugees accepted before he leaves office and then cram them in before Jan. 31, 2017 making Texas's withdrawing kinda pointless, most especially if Trump becomes the new president and enacts tougher vetting, drawing Texas back into accepting refugees making the entire thing just a political show.

Formal announcements have a protocol that are set months out but initiated and enacted much sooner. You don't have a going out of business sale on the last day of operation only.

It took basically 2 years to implement the disaster of the ACA but it was in effect the month it was signed into law.

The govt doesn't move that fast either as everyone well knows unless they are trying to sneak something by the people and the courts

i think he has the support of most of the people here, so it could happen... i personally think they should just put it on hold till they can find a better way to check who these people are, so they don't start sending a bunch of terrorists here...

I am for legal immigration. But this is a more sinister agenda than just humanitarian aid.

I so agree why should they get to come here and we send the Mexican's back at least they are not bombing us..

No one should be let in to different states prior.. It only gives them more head way for terrorist attacks across the Nation.

Legal Immigration I'm all for..

Am I getting this right?

ya'll afraid of refugee families that come with nothing but the clothes on their backs?

Funny, we had the same concerns over Vietnamese here in Canada many years ago.

They've been nothing but upstanding productive citizens... The fear is false, be vigilant and cautious but cmon!

They could but there's nothing left, levelled cities

No sides to choose, Syrian military, rebels, Daesh?

I'm on the side where we arrange for a temporary stay

this auto citizenship thing is for the birds, these people are educated like crazy but they're washing dishes here because their education isn't recognized.they want to go home I'm certain

sending doctors and lawyers etc and women, children on the battlefield, give me a break
that's what you're suggesting?

yes... fight for you home and land, or pack up and run... everything you just said makes a case for staying and fighting for what is yours... but i take it Canadians don't understand that, because all you justin bieber lovers will be crossing the border when you're country is threatened... but don't worry, if the liberals are in charge, they will greet you at the border and hand you checks, cars, a place to live and a food stamp card...
