I'm new at this so just starting a discussion. At the beginning stage of getting to know someone, do you prefer meeting up, texting, or phone calls?

Before any of those options.....I'm pretty sure most would like to message each other via the site, before going off site to communicate.

Considering that none of us can truly trust each other in the beginning you need to have some rules in place for yourself.

My rules are as follows:

1. Messaging on this service until basic information is exchanged concerning the validity and honesty of that person.
~ this requires two-way communications including but not limited to asking/answering questions not revealed in a profile.
~ limiting intimate communication until you are both sure a more personal form of communication is warranted.

2. Exchanging email adresses. Taking it to the next level of intimacy.
~ More two-way communication revealing specific information to each other
~ Sharing public experiences of your life with them and vice-versa.

3. Telephone conversations that give personal relationship beliefs and expectations.

4. Skype or Face Chats that let you see each other in real-time, non-scripted and non-scheduled life.

5. An agreed upon meeting that is safe, public and mutually agreeing.

6. A formal date

7. A visit to the other's home

The rest depends upon how you and the other want to proceed.

I believe you need to exchange at least a few emails, but meet up as soon as possible just for a coffee, so you can at least both meet each other before deciding upon any future date.

Welcome to Mingle2 and Good Luck.

Each person is different, but in general...

Message a few times
Exchange phone numbers
text then talk
meet up

Message on site a few times. If you live relatively close, within 100 miles, get together for coffee. I'd meet at a halfway point. If it were a longer distance, I'd talk on the phone first and see how that goes.

Within 100 miles puts me in a four state range (6 if you add another 20 miles or so). I guess in Idaho, 100 miles is just "down the road a bit..." laugh

Where i live in Idaho, it's a small town and a little remote ( population around 3,200) and the biggest town within 100 miles. People get used to driving.

Or you text a friend to call you so you can fake a emergency and get the hell out of there

... of course pay the bill first... you can't be a total slug

Just as soon as I pay off the bill for that new tractor I bought for Natasha in Smolensk.
