Hey so i was wondering, can people from outside of the usa tell the difference between different american regional dialects?
I mean i cant really tell the difference between a manchester accent and a liverpool accent (though im aware that they exist) so i was wondering if other english speaking peoples could tell the difference between american regional dialects?

I can.

But I cant necessarily say where it comes from.

Obviously the Southern accent and the New York accents are very pronounced and that can be heard, but it takes me a bit of time, otherwise.

The Manc accent and the L'pool accent are amazingly different, and yet they are only 60 miles apart.

In the UK, you can travel 35 miles and the accent will have changed dramatically.

I lived in the UK for 6 years and have gotten pretty good at the different accents, but I find them all lovely.

Seems most of the Brits I hung around with thought my accent was cute (northern Idaho) but they all really loved the Southern accent and I was asked many times to put it on for their amusement ..lol

I miss the UK brokenheart

I'vr lived in Germany for 25 years, but I can still tell the difference between Brummie, Liverpudlian and Geordie etc. Although many peoplke can't tell that I come fron Newcastle as at 16 I joined the army and having moved around so much I picked up a variety of accents. So It can be quite amusing at times when people ask me if I come from Holland.bigsmile laugh laugh laugh
