Topic: Does anyone else experience the site freezing when in use

I am new here and finding the page stops and buffers for several seconds then starts for a further few seconds then the cycle continues whilst in use. My internet should be fine, so its a stop start situation and takes the enjoyment out using the site. I use my lap top online at other locations and no problems, so it seems to specific to this site. Can anyone come up with a solution please? Thanks

The site servers get backed up I suppose. Others have the same problems from time to time.

they had to switch to a backup server or website then, they are still working on bugs, I think...

What I have been experiencing is that when I open multiple threads in tabs, sometimes one of the tab pages loads with only the base stylesheet, the content is blank.
On that tab, if I try to load the next page of that thread, all subsequent pages in that thread load blank as well. If I click the link on that tab to go to my profile, it loads blank as well.
If I close the tab and click the thread from the index, it all loads fine.

I have seen where bandwidth throttling has caused this to happen on other sites.
Bandwidth costs money.
Lots of sites slow down their connection to save money.
Kinda makes sense for a free site that is under high load.

This incomplete page load is not constant.
It mainly occurs at certain times of the day and on active threads.
While it is a slight inconvience to me, its not terrible and since I kinda expect it now, not really a big deal.

You can test your internet speed using the speed test site
http://www.speedtest.net/
The thing to remember on slow or unresponsive sites is to check other sites to see if they are also slow.
If all sites seem to load slow, check your internet speed.
There are programs that allow you to optimize your internet speed.
For my PC I use TCP Optimizer.
A quick google search for "internet speed optimizer for..." (add your interface device, iPhone, android, laptop, PS1, x-box, etc) will give you your choices.
You can also call your ISP and ask for a boost for your wifi (you may have to pay extra for that).

Also, its probably important to note that M2 recently went offline with problems. Can't recall if they said it was database or server issues but there might be a glitch in their transmission protocols.

Still, I think it has to do with bandwidth throttling.
Just makes sense given this is a free site...

i didn't see the thread but i am pretty sure charles had stated it was a server issue and something about having to switch to a back up server when this all started and soufie started the what to do when thread

Yeah, agree...

Transmission protocols change on a regular basis.
Drivers need updating, security settings change, etc.

I'm not sure if M2 is still on the backup server but if it is it may have software that prevents the updating of a particular transmission protocol. Thus the server runs with old protocols.

If M2 is now on a new server, bandwidth throttling may be a preventive measure to safeguard this server from the taxing operation that caused the other server to fail.

Personally, I can deal with the minor inconviences I am experiencing till things get ironed out. It really isn't that big of a deal to me because I can still access the site.

Yeah, I've gotten a few of those banners but I just come back later.
Not really a big deal, My life doesn't hang by M2's availability.

What I see is pages that look like they're loading forever, if I walk away for half an hour they'll still be loading (something). They look complete, it's almost like there's a web socket continually updating some field, like on bitcoin sites that have live price quotes. There also seems to be a lot going on with Javascript or PHP or something that shows up as CPU load. Something crashed my browser hard yesterday to the point of my cookies getting trashed, the ones that keep you logged into sites so you don't have to keep looking up passwords.

I fed this page to the w3 validator (validator.w3.org) and it says there are 75 errors. It's hard to keep it happy, I've been a webmaster and worked weeks cleaning up a mess left by my predecessor.

But this one:
character "&" is the first character of a delimiter but occurred as data
happens a lot and it seems to mostly be in javascript, not because there's an ampersand on a page. Makes me wonder if there's an update to some javascript library being used or to whatever's generating the pages.
