I just spend 8 hours at my internship reading police reports on sexual assult and domestic violence. And just reading the reports affected me, so I am going to pass on some general safety information.

Always be aware of your surroundings. Travel in areas that are well-lite and have other people present. Don't travel alone in the evening and at night.

Don't assume that it will never happen to you, always be cautious. Violence can occur anywhere, even in the nice neighborhoods.

Take different routes home from work.

When at home, make sure to lock your door and be sure that there are no clear views to areas that you sleep.

If you are ever a vicitim of a sexual assult, report it right away. It is crucial to gather evidence within the first 12 hours by a rape kit. Evidence can be collected up to 72 hours but will be compromised.

If you were a victim of sexual assult or domestic violence at any point, it is never to late to seek help or therapy.
