I've been called an atheist but for me that paints a picture of a non-spiritual person. I am definitely not that.

I believe in "God" and I define "God" as "That which is."

I exist, therefore my closest experience of "God" is myself.

I believe in myself therefore I believe in "God" by that definition.

Yes, I am God.

So why do people mistake me for an atheist?

I too have been called a Godless heathen....and my spirituality is most important to me.

In order to "prove"...you'll have to be a scripture thumping hack.

I also own a nun's habit and a priest's collar and I am a minister of the Universal Life Church.

My church is called: "The Universal Life Church of Brutal Truth and Honesty."

I am the high priestess and I wear any hat or collar I want.

I don't recognize U as a word. Yes I am God at my core. We all began from that which is.

I can prove that we are God via logic beginning with the premis that God is everywhere, all powerful, and all knowing. If that is true, then that includes everything, and everyone and every where.

There is nothing anywhere that is not God.

Nothing can be left out.

I do not believe I am God, I in fact, am NOT my God, but I do believe my God, and I are one, and connected by the spirit.

I think I may poeticly understand where you come from in a way Jeanniebean.

Okay, here is a topic that I can have an opinion on! I consider myself an "Athiest" because I do not believe in a "Higher Power" than myself in this world. To me, there is no God....I have had to bear the burden of my mistakes alone, therefore I'll accept the rewards for my accomplishments as well. I've experienced no "Divine Intervention" at the lowest points in my life, times when a little guidence from above would have been helpful. At no point did I ever feel that "But for the grace of God, go I"---quite the contrary, it was "I" that went!! I've adopted the stance that life is what WE make it, that We created "God" in our own image because we needed someone to blame for our foibles and to credit our successes to. I am the highest power in my life. I make the decisions, reap the rewards and suffer the consequences. However, I will admit to one thing: I am jealous of those who have faith in something more. It must be comforting to feel that you're not alone in those times of personal weakness, in moments of internal dispair. I was always left to ponder my existance and my future here on earth on my own, with no entity of a more "enlightened" veiwpoint to guide me through what I can only describe as Hell On Earth. I've read the Bible on many occasions and found personal grace from the words within, but I still feel that the Bible is the best book of fiction BASED ON HISTORICAL FACTS ever written. There are many moral and ethical standards one could live their lives by in the Bible, but I feel it is still a human decision to live with those as a guideline to better living.
That is my two cents.

JB - you raise a good point with your word choice. You feel that the word "atheist" paints a picture of non-spirituality - but this is not what the word actually means.

So who paints this picture? And should we accept their picture?

Ladylid drives this point home further, saying that she is also called a "Godless heathen". For many, the word "atheist' is used to connote a lack of values. Should we accept that premise?

All atheist really means is "lack of belief in a diety".

Now these people that are calling you 'atheist' JB - they may actually be mistaking you for something else, like a materialist, in which case you are right about them being wrong about you. But they may also just be using the word correctly and literally. If you lack belief in a diety, but are 'spiritual', then you are a 'spiritual' atheist.
