I think his point was that it may be a US law (although it is a vague law and there are some serious loopholes) it is a US LAW and this is an international site. No way to regulate.

I read the trillogy. They were fair. Not going to hit my top 10 of amazing literary feats, but they were decent. Well written, and the plot was much better than I had anticipated. My husband read them after I did and even he enjoyed them. The hype is because they are Harloquiney but published as mainstream. So they have been dubbed as "mommy porn" the book on every suburban mother's nightstand. They are not any worse than any of the romance novels that I had read in the past, but they were a bit more S&Mish than any of the Romance novels ever got, which is the next part of the taboo.

All in all, not bad reading, I actually really liked them, and have read them twice (as they are on my nook and thus easy travel books).

think:
I am fairly certain that irish believes me to be 50 shades of CRAZY...

However, I reject that logic and substitute my own.

Based on the short time I got to talk to Izzy, I'd say she is shades of green. I'd even say 9 shades of green.

Myself.......right now I'd say about a 4
Cappy, I will take that as you saying that I am a 9.. and as you were at my wedding, I will accept that!
As you sister I say you are at LEAST a 6.. and that is as your sister.

it was likely before you joined. it was one of the first threads I was in, and I have been posting since early May'07.

I didn't mean for that reply to sound as pushy or mean as it may have come across.. (I need to start proofing before I hit post). Sorry if it came across that way. flowerforyou

I'm just saying that in relation to "Lex" he DID have a clear picture, but he looked close enough to his "lex-age" with the hat on to not raise any flags (granted this was 5 years ago, and who knows how often he changed his age since then). a Clear picture did not "save us" from what happened in this situation.

A picture is a picture. It will not protect you. Only you can protect yourself. Jmho.

It is harder to hide with a clear picture. There are ways you can actually identify that pic. It is also illegal to use other people's pics claiming it to be you and you can be prosecuted for this. The more different clear pics to me the better to assure safety. So, I do feel that not having to put up a pic does make it easier for someone to hide. Just my opinion.

If "Lex" had clear pictures up, it would have been clear that he had been lying about his age. When people use pictures like he did, it's quite easy to hide who you are.

If I am going to meet someone, I expect to be able to pick them out in a crowd. If I feel their pictures (yes, multiple. only one picture is a bit weird) will not allow for that to happen, they are not clear enough.
and what difference would him lying about his age have made in the grand sceme of things?
I don't make it a point to run every person I chat with here through facial recognition software and a criminal background check. A clear picture of him would not have prevented him from being here. As a matter of fact, once upon a time... when I first started here back in '07' he DID have a picture with the hat but without the sunglasses up, holding a JSH sign. It was in relation to a thread that was going at the time. the picture didn't stay up long, but it was there.

In reality, a clear picture won't do you any more good than a cartoon to find out a person's trueness.

This has been an ongoing debate here for as long as I can remember..
"we want a clear face picture"
"Why don't you post a full body picture?"
"Is your picture current?"
"why does everyone wear a hat in their pictures?"

I have an avitar as my main pict. but if anyone is so inclined, I have pix of my husband and myself on my profile (I amy have some of just me as well, I havent looked in a while to be sure). I can understand both sides of this. I get the wish for ananimity as well as the hope for openness and honesty.

It comes down to this. If you are not comfortable with people not putting up their profile pict, don't talk to that person. If you are okay with it, then do. If you are THAT uncomfortable with people who have no photos online, avoid online. frown
A profile pict will not ensure that a person is who they say they are any more than not having one. I have met people in person, known them for years and they turned out to be something other than what they portrayed themselves to be. I dated a guy for years before he became abusive and tried to kill me. knowing him, seeing him, having pictures of him didn't make him any more "real" than anything else did.

You are right though... After much thought I have decided that being a Hired Gun deals with to much politics..
I'm going to be a revenge killer.. I will begin taking requests for those on your personal "hit lists" later today.
Thank you.

I'm training my cat to be a super ninja attack cat. I've been letting him watch lots of Animal Planet and go to public schools. :P
That combo should just about cover it. My cat is a psychopath, so I don't think I can teach her anything. and my other cat is still angry that I went out of town for 2 weeks and left my sister in law in charge... 4 months ago! he has decided to become anorexic..

wanna trade cats?!?!

Aw, I hope he gets better. I just took my cat to the vet because he was losing weight. They said he was fine, but he hasn't really been eating yesterday and today, hopefully it's nothing.

Don't let the other one fool you, cats can be trained, especially the crazy(er) ones.

My cat suffers from an acute case of goofidus.
He's been doing this for months, the vet says its an emotional issue, physically heis perfectly healthy.
the crazy one is a "Texas Tortise Shell" which are the craziest of the crazy! my best friend has one and hers is just as insane as mine.

G'morning...
Great news! Izzie and her hubby are going to try to join us - at least at the Strawberry Festival!

Now, y'all be nice to her for her first visit! We can torture her with sick humor on her SECOND visit to the group and/or the threads! (We don't want to scare her away!)
I'm not easily scared. I'm a mingler since '07 met my hubbie here, had Eileena9 and TheCaptain at our wedding, and have met a couple of other Minglers along the way. When we moved from Oregon to Houston a couple years ago, I got busy and stopped mingling (crazy I know!) but am back now!! See everybody at the STrawberries with my hubby and pack of kiddos (there are 5 of them)..
CANT WAIT!!! Every Mingle2 person We have met IRL has been AMAZING And are "life long friends" and we cannot wait to meet more!!  love
