I don't get hit by scammers just men who ask for sex, sexual online encounters, and telling me how sexy I am. A moderator or somebody can probably point you to the right settings better than I can. But I have proof that some ladies don't really read profiles, either. And that's all I'm gonna say about that. ![]() |

"What to do? What to do?
Put peanut butter in your shoe." That's all I can remember of it, but I think Shel Silverstein wrote it. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to look up Shel Silverstein and tell us what song he wrote that was a #2 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1969. Minor hint: it also topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs and Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts that same year. (The underlined part is the real hint.) It's almost impossible to be bored when you hang around here. ![]() EDIT: Okay, I know that was before you were born, but I'll bet you've heard the song. ![]() |

owner of a broken heart

^^^ Good one.
It reminded me of a cartoon I saw years ago. For reference, the Reader's Digest had a series called "I Am Joe's _____," with the blank being "heart" or other major organ. The articles explained how the organs worked, etc. They even did a movie, with Lloyd Bridges. http://www.amazon.com/Am-Joes-Heart-Lloyd-Bridges/dp/B002N7SXAC Anyway, in the cartoon, there was a surprised nurse sitting in front of a cardiac monitor, on which a little image of a heart had suddenly appeared, saying "Hi! I am Joe's heart!" |

and the idea of some arbitrary standards to 'force' people into mental care is much scarier than the idea of gun control,,,,to me
As far as I know, all states require a doctor and a judge to sign the order to have someone involuntarily committed. What's "arbitrary" about that?
"Gun control" is not crime control. It's not even about guns; it's about control. Did you know that Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, the Columbine murderers, were originally intending to blow up the school with two bombs made with 20 lb. propane cylinders? Do we need background checks before someone can buy any compressed flammable gas? "If gun control worked, Chicago would be Mayberry right now. Real life is gun control not working in Chicago. Real life is gun control failing in Camden, New Jersey, and Oakland, California, and a lot of other communities in this country . . ." -- Cam Edwards |

They need to figure it out and get ahead of the game. Mental health facilities are there to help people. But the patient needs to get there and be evaluated in order to be helped. Many of the really nutty ones think they're okay, and the rest of the world is sick.
This was written about Seung-Hui Cho, the Virgina Tech shooter: "No one who knew him seems surprised by what he did. On the contrary, dorm chatter characterized him explicitly as a future school-shooter. One of his professors, the poet Nikki Giovanni, saw him as a disruptive bully and kicked him out of her class. Other teachers viewed him as disturbed and referred him for the ubiquitous 'counseling' -- an outcome that is ambiguous to the point of meaninglessness and akin to 'treatment' for a patient with metastasized cancer. But even that minimal care wasn't given. The shooter didn't want it and no one tried to force him to get it. While it's been reported that he was involuntarily committed to a 'Behavioral Health Center' in December 2005, those reports also say he was released the very next morning. Even if the will to segregate an obvious menace had been in place, the legal mechanisms to provide even temporary 'warehousing' were absent. The rest is terrible history." The above was written in the Wall Street Journal in April 2007, by Dr. Jonathan Kellerman, a psychologist, professor, author and consultant/expert witness for the legal system. (I added the bold and italicized text.) http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB117728404337878438 We don't need "gun control." We need better "nut control," so would-be killers can't use a knife, a car, fire, guns or anything else to harm other people. |

Earlier today I ran across an older thread on a guitar forum I use, and one member mentioned thisistrue.com. I had never seen that site before, so I went to have a look. This was among the sample stories (Randy Cassingham, the site owner's comments are in italics):
Researchers at Alabama's Auburn University say they have determined what men want in the "ideal woman": she is sexually inexperienced but likes sex, has a career but is a full-time homemaker, has a slim build, is athletic, and has pretty eyes, dark hair, good complexion and a firm butt. Large breasts are nice, but not all that important. The study's lead author, Erica Gannon, says the specifications are similar to what is found in the Bible. "Our participants, whether knowingly or unknowingly, espouse a view of the ideal woman that is very similar to the views held by individuals thousands of years ago." However, she adds, "It's hard to be this woman." (UPI) ...About as hard as being the ideal man: strong yet gentle, powerful yet sensitive, has a great career yet helps clean the house and raise the children, in control yet cries, and a sex expert who's only been with one woman.
https://www.thisistrue.com/samples.html Jeez, and about all I was looking for was a woman who'd talk dirty to me. <==(Bonus points for whoever is first to say what movie that's a line from.) ![]() |
