I am really amazed that nobody suggested throwing Windows out the window...especially since you're only using a bootlegged cd like you said and worried about updates?! go to ubuntu.com and click "get ubuntu now" ...or any other linux system for that matter?! find a local tech savy kid and pay him a couple of bucks to do that for you. He can set up another operating system and keep your current one intact in case you really don't like the linux based. Ubuntu is completely free, legal, has great support and you don't have to worry nearly as much about viruses/malware like with a Windows system. Or take the "remote access" offer you got ;) The comment about your computer probably being too slow for todays programs is probably right. Also: If you already had a virus on your computer and you installed an anti-virus programm, it might not even pick it up at all.
