No one can really answer that objectively as none of us were there, however, it may not be that either of you did or said anything so wrong, it may just be that you weren't right for each other. Just try to learn what you can from the experience, stay positive, and move on.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but as you said, he is no longer suffering and with loved ones who have gone ahead. You and your family have done a wonderful and amazing job at making his remaining time here feeling loved and cared for, even when he didn't seem to want it. I sincerely think it wasn't you or your efforts he was resisting...it was knowing, even subconciously, that the time was near for him to move on.

I hope all goes well on Wednesday.

I hate to say it...jmo...but maybe him thinking he doesn't have cancer anymore might give him a little morality boost/encouragement (?). Medicine, hospitals, doctors, etc. are useful...to a point sometimes...but in some cases you have to follow your gut and heart to do what you think is best.

I hope he does better with his current situation. Even if it is for a short time, maybe make his room as homey and decorative as possible, bring some additional personal things from home such as a favorite blanket, chair, clock, pictures, etc.

There IS a bit too much info here and there, and some would be better left to give out as your getting to know an individual...then again wearing your heart on your sleeve might attract some that would appreciate and maybe identify with some of what you've gone through. You never know, just be careful, there are also some that will prey on those that seem "nice" and somewhat vulnerable.

You seem like a nice, down to earth, "direct" type of person.
