True...but "I" have to believe that the vast majority wish not to kill. "Most" want to take care of our weak, elderly, sickly.
We are cognizant of how the worst of us are more despicable than any other species, but "most" are NOT. We have guilt and remorse when we hurt. Some of the best of us even (at least at one time) thanked our food source which we hunted. With all that is wrong with the human condition, there is a lot that is "good". We are more than opposable thumbs and the ability to accesserize. |

Human beings are the only animal on this planet that kill and hurt for fun. All other animals kill to survive and protect. We are a sad species.  I've SEEN that......

I agree with you Beach. I do believe the good outweigh the bad in the human species, but sometimes it is hard to believe when we watch the news and all that is going on around us.

Our problem is whomever is deciding what is "newsworthy".
To accept what we are fed and to give in to the laziness of cynicism is what bothers me about a growing number of people.  Almost as much as my own self-righteous sounding pontifications. |

Chimpanzees, probably closest to us on the DNA link, also kill for sport. They usually eat the meat, true but their main purpose is that it fulfills a kind of bonding agent in their social hierarchy with the highest ranking individuals getting the choicest parts. Lions and other big cats also kill to teach their young how to do it. Male lions fight for control of a pride and will kill off all the previous pride leader's offspring. This ensures that only the new leader's genes will be passed on but is not necessary for the survival of the species. There are many other examples, not all of them mammals. |
