KELSO, Wash. - A day care worker has been fired after police found a 4-year-old girl wandering the streets of Kelso Thursday.

Police said they found Rainy Bonds, 4, at a small park street-side a half-mile from the Kelso Christian Academy day care facility after a driver called 9-1-1 to report the girl was alone.

Kerry Sickels of the Kelso Christian Academy said the worker who was fired let Rainy go to the bathroom alone in violation of their policies.

Rainy apparently decided to walk home from the facility and went out a door unnoticed after leaving the bathroom.

Personnel at the day care provider began looking for her after she did not come out of the bathroom after about 10 minutes, according to Sickels.

Rainy apparently became lost, crossed several busy streets and was found at the small park located near an interchange with Interstate 5.

The girl was not hurt during the ordeal but the caller to 9-1-1 reported she looked "freaked out."

Her mother, Denise Bonds, received a letter Friday outlining steps the facility was taking, including installing alarms on the doors, to ensure the incident would not happen again.

But Bonds told KATU News she would most likely not be returning Rainy to the facility following the incident.
