quote from Epicurus:

There is not need to fear death because when we are alive; there is not death to fear; and when we die, either we are nonexistent or there is a life after death. If there is an immortality, then we need not be concerned with death; and if there is no future life, then we will not be able to fear or worry; accordingly, fear of death is needless.

I agree with the idea that fear of death is needless, but for a different reason. I'm even excited about the idea of dying whenever my Daddy calls me back because in that moment after all these life's struggle I'm going to be able to see my Daddy face to face.
I mean my Daddy is with me every single minute of the day, but when I get there I will be able to contemplate Him face to face and that will be full happiness. Therefore, I don't fear death.

i think the reason for the fear of death is some people are unsure of what life after death is going to be for them. And thats where i think they should get up and do something about that fear.

That's lovely Walker. flowerforyou

I don't fear death so much as I can become concerned about the circumstances leading up to it. Since it is out of my hands, I try not to think of it...but it's hard to avoid when the subject comes up. BTW...Thanks! grumble laugh

I've never understood people's fear of death. I've never been afraid of death my entire life. The few times when I was seriously concerned about remaining alive it was so that I could care for other people in my life, not a concern about my own demise.

Like Epicurus says, if it's just 'lights out' then there is nothing to fear.

If there is life after death and the 'god' is truly benevolent, then a truly benevolent person has nothing to fear.

If there is life after death and a demon is in charge of the show, then why bother to fear death? You're no safer being alive than dead if that's the case. laugh

I think a lot of people don't want to die just because they want to stick around with loved ones, or maybe just to have fun. But that's not a fear of death, that's just not wanting to leave the party. drinker

maybe the question is why is the process to death painful?

I mean people fear dying because perhaps it is painful and no one enjoys pain.

If you have a heartattack and die it was painful wasn't it?
If you get hit by a truck driving 80 miles per hour is painful before dying. I don't see a happy smile in the movies when they show a man getting run over.
If you get shot in the chest and you die slowly isn't it painful?

The fear of pain before dying to experience your death is why people fear it supposingly??

I mean what happens to you afterwords(the actual death experience perhaps) is always a huge question and a debate that can go on forever with no concrete answer. Some say you are a spirit, you go to heaven, etc. etc. We just don't know even if we claim we do.

Supposingly that is why the human mind found stories to cherish our minds to not fear it later on in life or for that matter ever. Otherwise our whole life would be consumed of thinking about it only and not actually enjoying the life we are given.

im not anymore. most days i wish i was dead anyway, like now the pain is to hard to handle

i was in ITU on a ventalator and they put me to sleep for a week, and machines kept me alive. i stopped breathing before i was ventalated and put to sleep, and i have to say it was the most peaceful thing ive ever experienced. i look back and think i wish they never did get me back. dont mean to be morbid, but all the pain and suffering went and i was so peaceful. when they let me wake up again a week later i was so pissed off because all i could recall was being at peace.

it seems the human mind actually does not at all times know what it is, as any state of being or "feeling" can change in an instant, or with any situation? to believe any way one feel is not "needed" is not full logic or reason......

commom and "normal" environment decieve the mind into thinking what it "thinks" it truth for all times, which is actually in no way indicative of what is possible even 5 minutes from any profession of a "constant state of being".........

seeing fear as the enemy or evil make it one, which cause many things to be created out of actions to prove to onself they have no fear, but there is not one action committed that cannot be shown to have roots coming from both fear and love, for all things and actions committed.........

death......is it the love of life that do anything to preserve it, or the fear of not having life that make one do anything to preserve it?

there is no answer for this that could be proven to be as true or not true..........

it is just what is "felt" at anytime........

so indeed it seems to focus on fear and love within oneself as good or bad make for large circles of never finding owns own truth within, which be no more than the most honest one feel any second, never grasping at any one thing or feeling as good or to be sought after, as this lead to distraction of the mind while life "feeling" is being stolen.........

Why fear something that is inevitable .... I do not fear death, I welcome it, there are other things to do once you cease to be in this shell
