TIGARD, Ore. - A 3-year-old boy is fighting for his life and his parents are issuing a plea to the public for help, hoping that if enough people hear their son's story, he will get a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

Brendan and Lisette McNassar are hoping to find a match for their son, Liam, soon. A search through 11 million donors failed to find a person with the right genetic key. The most likely match is someone who is at least part Hispanic.

If you want to help by seeing if you are a match, you can head over to the Southwest Washington Blood Program donor center, located at 9320 N.E. Vancouver Mall Drive, Suite 100. They are open Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The test is easy - it just requires a simple cotton swab swipe inside your cheek and then your DNA will be put in the national registry for bone marrow donors.

Adding more donors from diverse backgrounds increases the chances that all patients will find the match they need. If you are African American, American Indian and Alaska native, Asian, native Hawaiian, Hispanic or Latino, or multiple races, you are urgently needed as a bone marrow donor.
