the band-aid

ripped it off the band-aid
stuck
tight
adhered
underneath the tape
two red raw patches
artistically
frame a deeper healing
wound
they all weep
reddish brown together

surgery

it was obvious, the 2nd opinion concurred
there was no other choice
it had to come out

shattered

we smashed it into pointy shards
now everywhere we go
more bloody footprints

sorry about that laugh

washing washing washing
cannot remove the antiseptic smell
balm too
close to the funeral home
politely welcoming visitors daily

nobody mentions it is Halloween
the candy bowl has a tissue box buddy
a little round wastebasket
tidily holds clean clean kleenex
once they were juicy
now they are all dry as dust

wait! here's a fat sloppy wet one
cherry on top
the suit and dress zombies wander around
lost mumbling in another world
overmedicinated
whiffs of perfume temporarily
over alcohol and witch hazel

down the hall
last doorway on the left
where are the doors?
looking up from cordovan shoes
eyes run
along the tired grey
tight nap indoor/outdoor carpet
shrine on a pedestal
a velvet silken glistening holefull
of corpse,
surrounded by petals
shedding on the floor
memories of organ music
all quiet now
