We live in a country where anyone can achieve amazing and colossal success....or failure...based on his or her personal choices.

We have a new President now, and I surely hope that he remembers the great words of Reverend William J. H. Boetcke (My apologies. I just discovered that it was indeed NOT Abraham Lincoln who said the following):

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

You cannot further brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away men’s initiative and independence.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

In order for this to be true, the people of the United States need to acknowledge this as well...

These are definitely words of wisdom...

So quiet...what are you implying in your post?

just that that period of history was the one time that the nation was more divided than it is now

one great man stood up to lead and the crazies killed him for it

EDIT: ohhhh I get it, you thought I was talking about a threat to Obama. No, that didn't even occur to me. I was just thinking of Lincoln and what happened to him

Yes well some people need reminding...if they have to ask at all that is.

His statement was ambiguous.

I asked him to clarify it.

Lincoln was killed because he "put" money into the system and bypassed the Federal Reserve....(which we pay interest on) when money goes from the treasury...said interest is not paid.....One other president bypassed the Federal Reserve......."Both were shot in the head"

So quiet...what are you implying in your post?

FYI

The Federal Reserve didn't officially exist until 1913...

Congress was on vacation and it passed by three votes...

This is not wisdom. This is theory with an extremely biased capitalistic stance and nothing more.

How so?

Basically it goes right along with my beliefs.

Ignorance although blissful, is harmful.

Teach people how to survive, and let them do so.

Let the prosperous prosper.

Help those that struggle to keep up, but don't carry them.

Let people be responsible, instead of removing all responsibility away from him or her.

People are born equal. But we grow in unique ways. We should be allowed to grow in those ways. We should all have the same rights as anyone else regardless of gender/color.

If equality stands more important than freedom, you do not belong here in the U.S.

Equality - everyone being required to dress the same, look the same, have the same type of job, no marriages, no allowing emotion, test tube babies, etc. is, and will be the outcome of the above statement. Think about it...

Most wealthy people i have seen have worked HARD for their money. You have to put in long hours, and be smart. You have to get to know everyone around you, and attend many social events to make these contacts.

The rich are not your enemies, although some of your enemies might be rich... Refrain from practicing prejudice...

There's a lot that could be said about ol' Honest Abe, who was not quite so honest.

I do not find it hard to believe that those are not actually his words.

I like the OP, wise words spoken well.

I have respect for Lincoln. He was well spoken for. And i do like the fact that he pushed to have slavery abolished.

But:

I do not like his stance in the Civil War. I firmly believe his actions made it much easier for our government become more corrupt. It seems kinda power hungry to take that power away from states, and unify it under a single, centralized ruling...

Dude, this is all purely capitalistic.

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
Yes you can. Erase the classes and let everyone prosper.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
Yes you can. Ties right in with the above.

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
Again, purely capitalistic. Prosperity can be brought about in any type of economy.

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
No, not under capitalism.

You cannot further brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
Actually as long as there will be class, there will be hatred. Brotherhood is not ever really likely.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away men’s initiative and independence.
Yes you can. Character can always be built as long humans are able to socialize. Independence is a vague term. We all share this planet.

You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.
We must always help one another. No man is an island.

Tell me, have you ever once thought in your life that there are other, better ways to live? Why are you so incredibly certain that society exists, and then this is the best possible society? All of your answers are purely biased and capitalistic.

Hey, I'm not slamming you bro... But i think you would be happier in a communist or socialist country. Seriously, you should visit them... There are countries out there that share your beliefs.

China
Egypt(I think)
North Korea
Cuba
Vietnam
Sweden (I think)

These countries practice socialism and communism. There are more than listed of course. But you should look into them bro. (Once again i am not attacking.)
