Women holding the majority!! very cool!
CONCORD – Democrats made history in the New Hampshire Legislature on Tuesday, recapturing the state Senate and the House of Representatives for the first time. And despite the loss of straight-ticket voting, the new majority in power after the Democratic tsunami election of 2006 did not lose a single seat in the Senate. Unofficially, they suffered only a loss of 16 seats in the 400-person House of Representatives that two years ago, they'd taken control of for the first time since the Civil War. "We definitely made history. There has never been a back-to-back majority in the House," said House Speaker Terie Norelli, D-Portsmouth. Indeed, Democratic Party Chairman and ex-House member Raymond Buckley said voters had not ever kept the Democrats in charge of either legislative body. Another national historic first lies in the Senate that has 13 of 24 seats held by women.
