Your thoughts!!! I would really take time and ponder it seriously. Nothing against the Automakers, they helped shape this country. Theres alot of plants setting idle.Workers setting idle.. Do we want to retool a technology we need to be fading out? Maybe its time to retool for future. Just my crazy thoughts..

Well it is sad. However we (federal govt) can save businesses from themselves. If a business is not proactive enough to identify trends and modify there business plant then they may fail.

Added zinger- If the unions didn't drive up the cost of employement that certainly would have helped

They will never stop asking for bail outs. Why should they when they know they will get it? No congress wants to be blamed for putting people out of work.

Congressmen like to do what's best for themselves and do what will get them re-elected rather then do what's best for the country.

The government has to say no to bail outs. Yes it will hurt the first few times but then companies will know they have to run their business right. If the government stops bailing big business out then big business will know they can't depend on the government and they will have to do business smarter or go under.

I was against it and still am. The whole rebate thing dosnt work. But we are going to be paying for the retooling of the Auto industry. With that in mind and the problems with oil, Someone better be going HMMMMMMM...

I am against bailing out any large corporation unless every penny is accounted for and results occur within a set period of time.Only people benefiting from bailouts are over paid CEOS who promptly retire with a huge hunk of the bailout money paying their pensions.

Michigan has already lost 400,000 auto industry related jobs. We've been dealing with the reality of this situation for some time.

I have mixed feelings about this. Why prop up an industry that has planned poorly etc.

Still 1 in 10 jobs is tied nationally to the auto industry. The ripple affects of allowing them to fail is huge. Allowing them to fail and letting those facilities close would mean losing our ability to produce autos here. Some of the same facilities that made autos by the way did quick switches to produce military vehicles during the wars. So are there security issues related to possiable closures?

Just a couple things to consider.

If it weren't for unions you wouldn't know what a weekend is!
