Ill have a blue christmas without you
Ill be so blue just thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green christmas tree
Wont be the same dear, if youre not here with me

And when those blue snowflakes start falling
Thats when those blue memories start calling
Youll be doin all right, with your christmas of white
But Ill have a blue, blue blue blue christmas

Youll be doin all right, with your christmas of white,
But Ill have a blue, blue christmas
sad sad sad sad

Why does everybody think "Blue Christmas" is an Elvis song?

Are me and Mr_Music the only guys who know that ERNEST TUBB WAS THE GUY that had the hit with that song in the late 40's?

Yes, but Sweet Pete, Not many people are as educated about the history of music like you and Mr_Music. We just remember the most recient and most heard version.

I get your point, Robin, but I'm not digging out some obscure historical tidbit here. ERNEST TUBB was the guy who had THE HIT with "Blue Christmas" - just like Gene Autry had the hit with "Here Comes Santa Claus." All Elvis Presley did was cover those two songs. In other words, it's not an Elvis song just because he recorded it on an album.

I don't know who wrote it, but I know for a fact that the reason Elvis put it on his album was because he liked Ernest Tubb's record of the song.

That was the Elvis version...because I like his voice better than the Ernest Tubb version...the song was written by billy hayes and jay johnson(they were the first to record it)

No. They only wrote it. They never recorded it. Ernest Tubb was the first to do that in 1948.

Yes, but Sweet Pete, Not many people are as educated about the history of music like you and Mr_Music. We just remember the most recient and most heard version.

Arguably, Elvis' version is the most popular, but Elvis' 51-year-old recording (from 1957) is the most recent? huh

Unfortunately, I'm finding Mingle to be too much like the real world.......

.....I make a statement or ask a question that disagrees at all with some popularly held opinion, and it causes friction.....

....and it's not just this thread.......

I'm beginning to wish I'd never posted on most of the threads I've posted on.........

I apologize for even speaking up in the first place.
