Portland teen brought cocaine & pistol to party, police say

PORTLAND, Ore. -- An 18-year-old man was arrested Monday in West Linn with 11 grams of cocaine and a firearm at a party where at least a dozen juveniles were present, police said.

Detectives responded to a loud party complaint in West Linn’s Bolton neighborhood early Monday, just after midnight, and found a dozen minors and juveniles, some of whom were intoxicated.

Rhys W. Short, a Portland resident, brought a backpack to an underage party that allegedly had pre-packaged grams of cocaine and brass knuckles in it, according to investigators.

A 9-millimeter pistol and switchblade knife were found near the backpack and were identified as belonging to Short, police said.

The homeowner was not present at the time of the incident but was later charged with providing premises for the consumption of alcohol by minors.

Short was on felony probation from Multnomah County Juvenile Department at the time of his arrest, according to detectives.

Another person at the party was a registered sex offender, police said.

Well that's what you get in a country where everybody may have fireweapons.That is a totaly wrong for a country that is proud on his(so called)leadership.If a country claims hisself as a leader,than its the first thing that it have to do,is forbid every fireweapon and let just the hunting clubs allowed to have firearms.But only for hunting,nothing els.I my country exsist that allready for a long time.And whe have here maybe ten victims of a shooting in a whole year.mostly by suicide or a robbery.The people here who died are mostly victims of a carcrash.By drunken drivers.And i think that is a little bit normal if you live in a country where they have more than 300 different kind of beers.

Yeah but the sad part about it is. That wasn't his gun.. In the sense he didn't legally own it. You can't even buy ammo for a pistol if your under 21. It would be nice if only the people that could legally own guns owned guns. But, that wont happen. And, not only are they local guns pistols ect that are on the streets with the drug dealers like mentioned or the gangs but automatic weapons as well that are illegal for civilians to even have if they are still fully automatic. So, until the illegal guns are taken off of the street.. I'll be walking around with a legal fire arm on me every chance I get

This is where our education systems fail us.

Number 1 prohibition has never worked. It's merely expensive for the tax payers.

Number 2 Statistically when an area tightens their gun laws there is an increase in volent crimes. This is because the law only prevents law abiding citizens form owning firearms. Kinda wierd how the areas that allow anyone to carry a firearm to the grocery store without a permit of any kind has the lowest crime rate...

Number 3, This is the most important one of all. It is a misconception that firearms were permited to citizens through the second amendment merely to allow people to hunt for their own food. This was NEVER the case. If you do your research you will find our forefathers wanted the citizens to be armed to protect themselves from tyranny. An armed population is a hell of a lot harder to force things upon than an unarmed one.

These men all had their signatures on our constitution. These are the men we should be listening to to prevent history from repeating itself.

"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

-This is the quote every service man/woman must take in order to serve. I believe our police does the same, as well as congressmen/women.

I point out the fact that the need to "defend the constitution" was written before the "obey orders" part. Meaning, no order overrides our constitution. Anyone attempting to disarm citizens is in breach of the constitution and could be considered an enemy of such. Protect these rights, for they are rights, not privilages. The same goes for the patriot act which is a breach of the 4th amendment.

Anyhow, as a former soldier, and a combat veteran i have taken this oath. I take my vows seriously and cannot allow the public to be disarmed...

This is why we are all allowed to have firearms. This is why this right needs to be protected.

Anyone who doesn't like it should learn to live with it or leave the country. To change this is to change our country's entire foundation.
