PORTLAND, Ore. - A small earthquake rattled the Portland area Sunday evening.
The earthquake, which registered a preliminary 2.6 magnitude, happened at 9:34 p.m. The epicenter was near Southeast 18th and Belmont. Because the magnitude was less than 3.0, it was classified as a micro earthquake. Classifications Magnitude 0 - 3 = Micro Magnitude 3 - 3.9 = Minor Magnitude 4 - 4.9 = Light Magnitude 5 - 5.9 = Moderate Magnitude 6 - 6.9 = Strong Magnitude 7 - 7.9 = Major Magnitude 8 or higher = Great KATU News received several phone calls from viewers, along with e-mails from people who said they felt the shaking. |
